As many of you may know by now, I love planning fun video adventures for Sudbury.com editor Mark Gentili to get him away from his computer screen for a few hours.
Being a journalist may seem glamorous from the outside, but it’s often a bit of a slog, so these videos are a bit of welcome fun. We hope you enjoy them, too.
In today’s installment of our staff tries series, I recently got Sudbury.com publisher Abbas Homayed to attempt to teach Mark the game of golf.
The only problem? Mark has only golfed once in his life, more than 30 years ago now.
Abbas, a passionate golfer who loves nothing more than spending time on the greens, graciously showed us around the Twin Stacks Golf Course in Coniston, a lovely little hidden gem in the eastern end of Greater Sudbury. A big, huge thank you to the staff at Twin Stacks for accommodating us. The course looks great and everyone is super friendly.
Despite dressing to the nines for the occasion (much to the amusement of the participants in ladies’ day), Mark rearranged some turf and lost several balls in a marsh, unfortunately.
I think my real goal in putting together this piece was to get Mark and Abbas’ real relationship on camera. They’re sort of like brothers, always taking the mickey out of each other, as you can see in my pretty funny video.
If you’d like to check out some of our other staff tries videos, over the past year Gentili has tried both cross-country skiing (a hilarious and catastrophic fall-o-rama) and downhill skiing (that went much better), yoga, driving a school bus, going back to daycare (cuuuutttee!) and more.
Do you have an idea for an activity you'd like to see a member of our staff try out on video? Email [email protected].
