Excessive speed may have been a factor in a fatal, multi-vehicle crash on the Lasalle Boulevard Extension on June 17.

On Nov 19, Greater Sudbury Police announced that one of the drivers involved in that crash has been charged.

The crash itself occurred just after 6 a.m. on June 17. GSPS said at the time that a westbound Dodge Caravan collided with a Dodge Dart and a Ford F-150, both eastbound.

“A 44-year-old man, the driver of the Dodge Dart, was pronounced deceased on scene,” police said. “A  43-year-old man, the driver of the Dodge Caravan, was transported to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the Ford F-150 was not injured.”

Now, the driver of the Caravan, who has since turned 44, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with the following charges:

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death
  • Driver Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed
  • Speeding

Police did not release the name of the man as "the information has not been sworn to through the court process" and the accused was released on a promise to appear.

He was released with a court date of Jan. 26, 2026 to answer to the charges.
