When Rena Richer heard one of her customers would need to travel to Montreal for her daughter to receive life-altering surgery, she knew she had to do something to help.

No wonder the people of Sudbury are staying away from the downtown area, especially in the winter time.

Update: Greater Sudbury Police said Sunday the pedestrian has been charged in connection with the accident.

A major seniors development going to the planning committee Jan. 25 proposes a six-storey building in downtown Sudbury. The plan would expand the existing Red Oak Villa on Ste. Anne Road by another 114 units.

A driver of a vehicle involved in a collision at the intersection of Paris Street and Van Horne Street Saturday afternoon was transported to Health Sciences North. Police were not able to confirm the extent of the driver's injuries.

Update: Dec. 18, 4:20 p.m. The roadway is clear of obstruction. The collision remains under investigation by members of the Traffic Management Unit. The Greater Sudbury Police Service is urging any witnesses to contact 705-675-9171 extension 2411.

The project manager for a local film co-op trying to open up a single-screen movie theatre in the downtown core said she's not concerned about Imagine Cinemas' plans to open in the former Rainbow Cinemas location.
