A 46-year-old man is facing charges as a result of an Aug. 4 side-by-side crash north of Capreol that claimed the life of an 11-year-old child.
The incident occurred over the noon-hour on Aug. 4, with officers dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:20 p.m. that day.
“Information provided was that two individuals were riding in a side-by-side when the driver lost control of the off-road vehicle (ORV), and the passenger was ejected,” police said at the time. “The passenger, an 11-year-old youth, was airlifted to the hospital. Unfortunately, the youth was pronounced deceased by medical professionals.”
On Nov. 19, Greater Sudbury Police announced officers with the Integrated Traffic Safety Unit have charged the driver, a 46-year-old man, with dangerous operation causing death and criminal negligence causing death as a result.
Police did not release the name of the man as "the information has not been sworn to through the court process" and the accused was released on a promise to appear.
The man was released with a court date of Jan. 7, 2026, to answer to the charges.
