Sudbury falls 5-2 on the road against North Bay

Just 48 hours after a big 6-2 victory on home ice over the North Bay Battalion, the Sudbury Wolves found themselves having the favour returned to them when they visited the Gateway City for a Sunday afternoon tilt.

The Battalion skated off with a 5-2 victory in this one.

Netminder Paolo Frasca got the nod for the Sudbury Wolves once again while Jack Lisson was the starting goaltender for the North Bay Battalion.

At the 3:45 mark of the first period, with North Bay shorthanded, Parker Vaughan scored his ninth goal of the season for North Bay, firing from the slot area, assisted by Carter Kunopaski, giving the Battalion a 1-0 lead after the opening period of the game.

The Battalion extended their lead under a minute into the second period. Ethan Procyszyn scored his 11th goal of the season after tipping in a shot from the point, assisted by Adrian Manzo and Jonathan Kapageridis, putting North Bay ahead by a score of 2-0.

With 11:19 to go in the second, Winnipeg Jets prospect Kieron Walton scored his 24th goal of the season from a bad angle, with the assists going to Liam Ladds and Jan Chovan, cutting North Bay’s lead in half to 2-1.

At the 14:01 mark of the middle frame, North Bay’s Nick Wellenreiter scored his 11th goal of the season with Frasca being screened, assisted by Parker Vaughan and Ethan Procyszyn, restoring North Bay’s two goal lead to 3-1 heading into the third period.

Just over a minute into the third, Nathan Villeneuve scored his 16th goal of the season with a slap shot, with the assists going to Kieron Walton and Jan Chovan, making the score 3-2 for North Bay.

Procyszyn scored his second goal of the game at the 7:20 mark of the third with a back handed shot that found its way past Frasca, with the assists going to Nick Wellenreiter and Parker Vaughan, increasing the Battalion’s lead to 4-2.

With 7:08 remaining in the game, Ryder Cali scored his eighth goal of the season with a rebound shot, with the assists going to Lirim Amidovski and Nolan Laird to cap off a 5-2 victory for the North Bay Battalion over the Sudbury Wolves.

The Sudbury Wolves travel to Sault Ste. Marie for a game against the Soo Greyhounds on Jan. 7, with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
