Five days after a 6-2 loss in Guelph, the Sudbury Wolves were back in friendly territory, taking on the Sarnia Sting at the Sudbury Community Arena.
The Wolves took the victory by a 3-1 margin and improved their record to nine wins, 18 regulation losses and one overtime loss on the season.
Patrick Quinlan was the starting goaltender for the visiting Sarnia Sting while Karsen Chartier got the start for the Sudbury Wolves.
The first period of the game was lacklustre, with the Sting outshooting the Wolves 12-6 but with no score, sending the teams to the dressing room for the first intermission still tied 0-0.
Beckham Edwards broke the scoreless tie just over one minute into the second period after picking up his own rebound, assisted by Mitch Young and Easton Walos, giving the Sarnia Sting a 1-0 lead.
At the 9:43 mark of the middle frame, with Sarnia’s Liam Beamish serving a two minute minor penalty for Tripping, the Wolves’ Captain Nathan Villeneuve scored on the ensuing power play with a one timer to the left of Quinlan, his 11th goal of the season.
He was assisted by Kieron Walton and Daniel Berehowsky, tying the game 1-1 heading into the third period.
Almost seven minutes into the third, Kieron Walton put the puck behind Quinlan for his 18th goal of the season after a deke on Quinlan, assisted by Jan Chovan and Nathan Villeneuve, giving Sudbury a 2-1 lead.
The Sudbury Wolves capped off a 3-1 victory with an empty net goal scored by Rowan Henderson, his sixth goal of the season, with Nathan Villeneuve picking up the only assist.
The Sudbury Wolves remain at home on Sunday, Dec. 7 , for a game against the Oshawa Generals, with a scheduled start time of 2:05 p.m.
