OLD WOMAN BAY — A wild crash that nearly injured an OPP officer resulted in charges for a 21-year-old Thunder Bay man.
On Nov. 26, the OPP and a tow truck were on scene on Highway 17 near Old Woman Bay shortly after noon, attempting to clear another collision, when a vehicle failed to slow down and flew into the ditch, nearly hitting an OPP officer.
“Luckily, there were no injuries,” said Const. Ashley Nickle, the OPP's media relations officer.
The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to slow down and proceed with caution for an emergency vehicle or tow truck.
Nearly 2,000 people liked and commented on the video on the Highway 11/17 Kills People Facebook page.
The OPP also shared the video on social media as way of reminding drivers to slow down when it's slick.
"Our officers are out in dangerous conditions to keep roads safe. This video from Highway 17 near Wawa on Wednesday shows how quickly things can go wrong. Please slow down, drive to conditions, and give emergency workers space," the OPP post said.
