Adversity is a privilege. That is the motto the Sudbury Five have been carrying with them since their championship run in the 2024-2025 Basketball Super League season.
They hoped that mantra would hold true on Wednesday morning on the road in Pennsylvania against the Lake Erie Jackals, four days after their first loss of the season.
The Five put that to good use in defeating Lake Erie in resounding fashion, by a score of 124-103.
The first quarter was a close one, with both teams coming out firing on all cylinders. The Sudbury Five held a very slim lead by the end of the quarter, by a score of 33-32, with Alex Kotov scoring 16 points to lead Sudbury in scoring in the quarter.
Sudbury dominated the second quarter in every facet of the game, outscoring Lake Erie by a 39-20 margin, opening up a big lead by a score of 72-52 heading into the dressing room for the halftime break.
Lake Erie came out of the dressing room for the third quarter ready to go and outscored the Five in the quarter by a margin of 28-25, with Trenton Temple leading the Jackals leading his team with six points in the quarter, but the Jackals still found themselves trailing heading into the fourth and final quarter of the game, by a score of 97-80.
The Sudbury Five rebounded in the fourth and won the final quarter 27-23, with Cecil Lee leading the Five in fourth quarter points with six, propelling the Sudbury Five to a 124-103 victory, improving their record to three wins and one loss on the season.
The Sudbury Five continue their road trip with a game on Friday in Windsor against the Express, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
