A tow truck operator faces charges under the Environmental Protection Act after dumping gasoline into a creek on Oct. 24.
The incident took place at the Petro Canada station on Regent Street, where the tow truck operator was seen dumping garbage cans of gasoline into a creek.
Video footage confirmed the driver’s actions, according to Chief Sara Cunningham’s monthly report, which the police board was provided with during last week’s meeting.
“The driver mistakenly filled the truck with gasoline, rather than diesel fuel and siphoned gas out from the tank, deliberately dumping the gasoline in the nearby creek,” according to the report.
Officers charged the driver, and environmental agencies and the City of Greater Sudbury were notified. The tow truck company was required to hire an environmental service to clean the creek and area.
