Approximately $13,600 in cocaine was seized from a 16-year-old after the teen rammed a police cruiser with a stolen vehicle.

This, according to a Greater Sudbury Police Service media release issued Friday.

Members of the GSPS Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit entered the scene on Dec. 18, when they found a vehicle reported stolen on Dec. 14, parked outside an address on Frood Road.

The suspect exited the building and walked to the vehicle, at which time officers approached the suspect on foot while an unmarked police vehicle blocked in the stolen vehicle.

When officers went in to make an arrest, the suspect rammed the unmarked police vehicle with the stolen vehicle.

Following what police describe as “a brief struggle,” officers arrested the teen “without further risk to officer or public safety.”

A search of the vehicle uncovered 136 grams of what is believed to be cocaine worth $13,600, and $3,500 in cash.

The 16-year-old suspect was charged with the following under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor vehicle
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Breach of Release Order

The youth was held in custody overnight to attend bail court today.

“Dangerous behaviour that puts the public and officers at risk will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable,” GSPS noted in their media release. “We remain focused on disrupting criminal activity and ensuring the safety, security and wellness of Greater Sudbury.”
