Sudbury Salto Gymnastics wrapping up its operations

It’s dividing its resources among other gymnastics clubs in Northern Ontario

After serving the Sudbury community for decades, the Sudbury Salto Gymnastics Club has made the decision to dissolve its operations.

Like many organizations, the club was significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced a prolonged closure and the loss of a permanent facility.

A press release said that following extensive discussions and careful consideration, the volunteer board of directors determined that it was no longer feasible to continue the club’s operations.

“In the spirit of community and with deep appreciation for the many families and volunteers who helped build the organization over the years, Sudbury Salto Gymnastics Club has chosen to share its remaining resources with other not-for-profit gymnastics organizations in the region,” said the press release.

Gymnastics equipment previously placed in storage has been donated to clubs that will put it to good use for young athletes.

In addition, funds raised through years of dedicated volunteer efforts have been divided equally and donated to The Sudbury Laurels and Extreme North Gymnastics, the two remaining not-for-profit gymnastics clubs in Northern Ontario.

“This was not an easy decision,” said Stacey Chamberlin, president of the Sudbury Salto Gymnastics Club Board, in the press release.

“The Sudbury Salto Gymnastics Club was built on the commitment of parents, coaches, and volunteers who wanted to create opportunities for children in our community to grow through gymnastics. While it is very hard to say goodbye, we are proud that our legacy will continue by supporting the clubs who share our mission and values.”

For more than 40 years, Sudbury Saltos offered a place for young athletes to develop confidence, strength, and lifelong friendships.

While the chapter of the club has come to a close, its spirit will live on in the continued success of local athletes and organizations, said the press release.
