The Sudbury Five tapped a familiar face as the team’s new assistant coach: former player Georges Serresse joins Head Coach Joey Puddister behind the bench this year.

When the Sudbury Five take to the court on Dec. 29 to open the 2025-26 season, they’ll be doing it with new coaching staff.

After the departure of founding head coach Logan Stutz, the team announced former player Joey Puddister would take the reins of the team as the new head coach and general manager. Now, the team has announced that Puddister’s assistant will also be a former Five player: Georges Serresse.

Serresse, who was a Laurentian University player from 2009-2013, turned pro in 2015, playing two seasons in France with the Pays des Olonnes Basket. He returned to Canada and played 67 games with the Sudbury Five from 2018 to 2022.

At the same time, Serresse spent four years as an assistant coach with Laurentian starting 2018.

“He had this role for 4 years, before becoming interim head coach of the program from 2022 to 2023,” a Sudbury Five news release states. “He is the owner of the Sudbury Basketball Facility, an academy that focuses on building strong fundamentals, and a supportive, high-energy environment where players can thrive both on and off the court.”

Fans can see Serresse behind the bench for the first time on Dec. 29 during the Five’s home opener. That game against the Lake Erie Jackals will also see the team raise the Basketball Super League championship banner, marking their big win in the 2014-25 season.
