FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION – A 47-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a school bus from Fort William First Nation.

According to an Anishinabek Police Service social media post, police responded to a call on Monday, Dec. 15 about a missing school bus, which was later returned to the location from which it was stolen.

An officer located a suspect, who allegedly refused to follow commands and resisted arrest.

A subsequent investigation of the woman’s backpack uncovered baggies of suspected powder and crack cocaine, police said.

The accused also appeared groggy and had slurred speech and was taken to hospital by police to complete a blood demand to determine the presence of drugs in her system, police said.

While at the hospital, the woman committed an indecent act. Police did not elaborate.

The woman, who was not named by police, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine) for the purpose of trafficking, operation while impaired (drugs), mischief over $5,000, failure to comply with a probation order, obstructing a peace officer and committing an indecent act in a public place.

The accused was remanded into custody to face a future court date.

The Anishinabek Police Service is asking anyone with information about this investigation to contact them at 807-625-0232.
