Onaping man facing drug charges after traffic stop

An Onaping resident is among two people charged following a Friday afternoon traffic stop on Highway 108, just south of Elliot Lake.

At around 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 21, “police stopped a black four-door sedan travelling northbound on Highway 108 towards Elliot Lake,” police said in a news release. “Police located suspected Oxycodone pills, a scale, numerous cellphones and cash. The driver and passenger were arrested and the vehicle was towed.”

A 55-year-old man from Onaping was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin). As well, a 53-year-old Elliot Lake resident was charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan. 15, 2026.
