New Wolves additions shine in close 4-2 loss to IceDogs

The new kids in town continue to impress the Sudbury Wolves and their fans, with recent additions Jean-Christophe Lemieux grabbing one assist and Adam Nemec adding two helpers of his own, in a losing effort at the Sudbury Community Arena on Friday night.

The Sudbury Wolves dropped a close 4-2 game against the Niagara IceDogs Jan. 9, seeing their record drop to 15 wins, 22 regulation losses and one overtime loss on the season.

Also in the lineup was Genc Ula, who the Sudbury Wolves acquired earlier in the day in exchange for Wolves’ fan favourite Kieron Walton.

Paolo Frasca allowed three goals on 19 shots in goal for the Sudbury Wolves while Vladislav Yermolenko saved 31 of 33 shots for the win for the Niagara IceDogs.

With 2:57 remaining in the first period, Hayden Reid scored his seventh goal of the season, an unassisted goal, giving Niagara a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of the game.

With Sebastian Dell’Elce serving a two minute minor penalty for Tripping, Sudbury’s Jan Chovan scored on the power play at the 2:38 mark of the second, for his eighth goal of the season, assisted by Jean-Christoph Lemieux and Adam Nemec, tying the game 1-1.

Under two minutes later, Hudson Martin scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Jan Chovan and Adam Nemec, giving the Sudbury Wolves a 2-1 lead.

Haoxi Wang scored his third goal of the season with 4:44 left to play in the middle frame, with the assists going to Ben Reisnecker and Ivan Galyanov, tying the game 2-2 with one period left in the game.

Under one minute into the third period, Ryerson Edgar put the puck in the net for his 10th goal of the season, assisted by Riley Patterson and Haoxi Wang, giving the Niagara IceDogs the lead again by a 3-2 score.

With Chase Coughlan in the penalty box for Hooking with under half a minute to go in the game, Ryan Roobroeck scored a power play on the empty net for his 22nd goal of the season.

Assisted by Ryerson Edgar and Riley Patterson, the goal sealed a 4-2 victory for the Niagara IceDogs over the Sudbury Wolves.

The Sudbury Wolves return to the ice on Sunday, Jan. 11, at home against the first place team in the Ontario Hockey League, the Ottawa 67’s, with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
