A Ty Dubreuil tally with 3:21 remaining in regulation proved to be the game-winner as the Greater Sudbury Cubs went on to down the Blind River Beavers 3-1 Saturday, Dec. 6 in a tightly-contested Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matchup at the Blind River Community Centre.
The opening 20 minutes went without a goal as the clubs hit the initial intermission still in search of the evening’s opening tally.
In the middle frame, the Beavers broke the deadlock 28 seconds in when Camden Cowan snagged a loose puck in the slot and put it past Cubs’ netminder Matthew Vahramian.
Greater Sudbury answered right back on the next shift though, with Jacob Signoretti blasting in his third of a season with a rocket from the left circle by Blind River’s Justin Sullivan.
Battling hard throughout the rest of period, the clubs stayed tied 1-1 after 40 minutes.
Action in the third saw Dubreuil provide the difference maker in the late going when he tipped a rising puck through a Beavers’ defender then went in on the right side and wired a wrist shot past Sullivan.
They then secured the road result in the final minute as Noah Kohan sent a long-range effort from deep in his own zone into an empty net to finish things off.
With the victory, the Cubs raise their record to 20-6-1-1 while with the setback the Beavers fall to 9-13-0-3.
The Cubs next take on the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at home at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex Dec. 11.
