Kivi Park and students from Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School are teaming up to support biodiversity at the South End park with a wildflower planting event on June 24.

With a grant from TD Friends of the Environment, the initiative “aims to rejuvenate the local ecosystem [and] fosters a unique intergenerational collaboration.”

On June 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., more than 2,500 native wildflowers will be planted by seniors from the Kivi Park SHARP program and the students from Lo-Ellen Park.

Kivi Park said the planting essential habitats and food sources for local wildlife, “while also creating a platform for knowledge exchange between generations” with seniors sharing their wisdom and knowledge, and young people sharing their energy and enthusiasm.

"We are thrilled to see such wonderful collaboration between our senior participants and the young students," said Jasmien Bureau, event co-ordinator at Kivi Park. "This initiative is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause. We are grateful for the support from TD Friends of the Environment, which has made this event possible."

The public is welcome to join in, Kivi said in the release.
