The Sudbury Wolves have traded star forward Kieron Walton to the Peterborough Petes for big defenceman Genc Ula and five draft picks.

The Sudbury Wolves host their second straight Friday and Sunday double-header this weekend.

The Pack welcomes the Flint Firebirds on Jan. 16 for a 7:05 p.m. match. Then, on Sunday, the team welcomes the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for some interleague play, starting at 2:05 p.m.

In a news release about the weekend games, the Pack highlighted the recent trades that saw stars Nathan Villeneuve and Alex Pharand traded away. Sudbury’s new acquisitions “were quick to introduce themselves to Wolves Nation,” the team said in a news release.

JC Lemieux, acquired from Windsor, recorded points in his first three games, compiling three goals and two assists in that span. Adam Nemec, who signed with the Wolves following the World Juniors, also owns points in all three of his games, including one goal and three assists.

“The two 2026 NHL draft-eligible prospects have provided sparks to the Wolves new-look offence,” the team said.

Defenceman Genc Ula joined the team ahead of Friday’s game against Niagara and showed his rugged two-way play. The 2027 NHL draft prospect was a +2 in his two games on the weekend.

Ula comes to Sudbury after the Wolves traded away star player Kieron Walton to the Peterborough Petes for Ula and five draft picks.

“Kieron has been a first class person and terrific Sudbury Wolf,” Wolves vice-president and GM Rob Papineau. “He left his mark on our franchise and has a fantastic future in the game. We thank him and his family for everything and wish him all the success in his career and his life.”

For his part, Ula is a 6-1, 205-pound left-handed defenceman from Chappaqua, New York. He’s the older brother of Sudbury Wolves prospect Patrik Ula. Born in 2008, he is eligible for the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.

“Genc is a defenceman we have highly coveted for the past couple of years,” Papineau said in a news release. “He is a big physical defender who is hard to play against. We have a great relationship with his family, having just had his younger brother, Patrik, up with us. We welcome Genc to Sudbury”.

Along with Ula, the Wolves acquired five draft picks from the Petes:

  • 2029 Peterborough 2nd round selection
  • 2026 Brampton 3rd round selection
  • 2027 Branford 3rd round selection
  • 2029 Oshawa 3rd round selection
  • 2027 Peterborough 5th round selection

Take note, Sunday’s game is a bilingual game, with the QMJHL’s Huskies visiYng for an “historic interleague matchup.”

“The game will be officially scored, with both statistics and the game result being tallied towards both the OHL and QMJHL statistics and standings respectively,” the team said.

Before the weekend though, the Pack is in action on the road in North Bay against the Battalion on Jan. 15. Puck drop is 7 p.m.

Single game tickets for this weekend’s games are available. Tickets can be purchased online here or at the Sudbury Arena Box Office.
