The Sudbury Five have added to their roster ahead of their Dec. 29 home opener.
The big name here is the signing of Jaquan Lightfoot, the 6-8 power forward from Brooklyn, New York, who was picked as the Basketball Super League’s Defensive Player of the Year last season.
“Lightfoot … has been a menace in the Basketball Super League since the league’s inception,” the team said in a news release. “A staple of the KW Titans’ roster, Lightfoot averaged
16.4 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game in his 2023-24 season, earning the 2024 BSL Defensive Player of the Year. In the 2024-25 season, he found another gear, averaging a double-double of 16.6 points and 10.7 rebounds, a feat only done in BSL history by him and Jaire Grayer of the Pontiac Pharaohs.”
With back-to-back defensive player honours, Lightfoot brings a lot to the team.
The past two seasons, he also spent some time playing pro ball in the Dominican Republic, suiting up for Titanes Del Licey in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto.
The Five also announced the signing of rookie, Cecil Lee, a 6-6 forward from Kansas City, Missouri.
“Lee joins the Five after a successful collegiate career,” the team said. “The Kansas City native played his sophomore year at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, where Lee averaged 8.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He’d then transfer to Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa for his junior and senior years with the Vikings.”
During his senior year, the newly signed forward averaged 8.7 points per game, as well as five rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, all while shooting an efficient 53.6 per cent from the floor.
