The City of Greater Sudbury is seeking public feedback on its Water/Wastewater Master Plan.

Feedback is being sought on the city’s OverToYou page, available by clicking here, until Jan. 15.

The long-term planning document aims at helping guide “infrastructure investment, support forecasted growth and ensure safe, reliable water and wastewater services in all communities.”

City council has been tackling water/wastewater infrastructure funding shortcomings, with their long-term plan including rate increases greater than their current 4.8 per cent annual hikes.

The plan proposed by Ward 6 Coun. René Lapierre and approved by his colleagues earlier this year, calls for a water/wastewater rate increase of 4.8 per cent in 2026, 5.4 per cent for 2027, 5.8 per cent in 2029, 5.8 per cent in 2030 and six per cent in 2031.

This, according to city staff, would close the water/wastewater spending gap in 18 years.

The city’s ongoing water/wastewater study is following the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process and is currently in phases 1 and 2, which focus on identifying system needs, reviewing existing conditions and assessing potential solutions.

Public feedback will help the project team refine service alternatives and develop a preferred long-term strategy that will be presented at a future Public Information Centre. The final Master Plan will be posted online for public review once complete.
