The City of Greater Sudbury has hired a new director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications.
Brigitte Pilon will fill the role effective Sept. 8, and will oversee all internal and external communications at the city. This includes customer service and 311 as well as “strategic priority areas,” including Indigenous relations and government relations.
Her appointment was announced in a media release issued by the city on Tuesday.
In the media release, it’s noted that Pilon earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communications from Laurentian University in 2010, and completed a Master’s in Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University in 2019.
She began her career in the not-for-profit sector before moving into education, holding communications roles within post-secondary institutions and at the school board level.
Pilon transitioned to the mining industry, serving as communications advisor for Vale’s Canadian and UK operations, where she oversaw communications strategies across multiple regions. Most recently, she served as chief of staff at Technica Mining, where she was credited with leading “key strategic initiatives while continuing to provide leadership in communications.”
“Brigitte will be a strong addition to our leadership team,” city CAO Shari Lichterman said in the media release. “She brings a wealth of communications experience and a solid track record of working well with key stakeholders in our community.”
"I am excited to be joining the City of Greater Sudbury team during such a transformative time," said Brigitte Pilon. "As a born-and-raised Sudburian, I look forward to working with city staff, the mayor and council to continue telling our community's story to the people of Sudbury and beyond."
Pilon replaces Terra Posadowski, who had held the position on an interim basis since November 2024 and is shifting back to her regular duties in Economic Development.
Prior to that, Marie Litalien filled the role of communications and community engagement director before leaving to take on the role of Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce president and CEO last year.
