Arrests made for a string of liquor store robberies

Greater Sudbury Police have arrested four adults and one young offender for their alleged involvement in a string of liquor store robberies.

“Over the past two weeks, the Break, Enter and Robbery (B.E.A.R) Unit has arrested multiple individuals believed to be responsible for a significant series of thefts targeting local L.C.B.O. locations,” GSPS said in a news release. “It is believed that the total loss value is over $30,000.”

Police said an increase in thefts at LCBO stores across the city began several months ago.

“Through a coordinated and intelligence-led investigation, the B.E.A.R. Unit identified several individuals believed to be responsible for repeated, high-value thefts impacting both the business and the community,” GSPS said.

The investigation led to five people, police said, all of whom have been arrested and are collectively facing 71 charges related to theft and other offences.

A 31-year-old is charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 x2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x2

A 35-year-old is charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 x32
  • Obstruct Police

A 26-year-old is charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 x2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x2
  • Breach of Probation x2

A 44-year-old is charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 x26

A 15-year-old young offender is charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000 x2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Breach of Release Order x2
