When arrested the man was in possession of various illegal drugs, police say.

A downtown police patrol made a small drug bust in the process of arresting a man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

In a Jan. 5 news release, Greater Sudbury Police said members of the Community Response Unit (CRU) were conducting “a proactive patrol” in downtown Sudbury when they located a person they knew to be wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for breach of a conditional sentence.

“The officers arrested the individual without incident and upon searching the individual, incident to arrest, located 20 grams of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine, 25 grams of what is believed to be crack cocaine, 3.1 grams of what is believed to be a psilocybin and 1.1 grams of what is believed to be fentanyl,” GSPS said in the news release. “The estimated value of the drugs is $3,440. The officers also seized over $370 in cash, believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking.”

As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old man is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance x3
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule III Substance
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Breach of Conditional Sentence x4

The man attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Jan. 4 to answer to the charges.

“Members of our Community Response Unit (CRU) remain dedicated to enforcing court-ordered conditions and promptly executing arrest warrants for high-risk offenders, while extending dignity and compassion to our most vulnerable populations,” GSPS said in the release. “This balanced approach reflects our unwavering commitment to reducing risk and enhancing the safety, security, and overall well-being of Greater Sudbury.”
