Kristan Straub, CEO of Wyloo Metals Canada, is vacating the job after two and half years to sit on the board of directors as a non-executive member for Wyloo, the leading mine developer in the Ring of Fire.

Wyloo and Straub made the announcement Oct. 8.

Straub, who grew up in Falconbridge, within the City of Greater Sudbury, was plucked from the ranks of Glencore in 2023 where he served as vice-president of exploration, leading the nickel team.

In a statement, Wyloo lauded Straub for his “exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication.”

“His strategic vision and commitment have been pivotal in building meaningful partnerships with First Nation communities, advancing our flagship Eagle’s Nest Project in the Ring of Fire region and building a strong foundation for future growth.”

The Australian-based miner said as a non-executive director, Straub’s insight will be key on setting long-term priorities for the business. His wealth of experience, Wyloo said, is important toward setting a new benchmark toward responsible and sustainable mining in Canada.

A Wyloo spokesperson said there’s no succession plan to find a replacement for Straub.

Within the organizational structure, Luca Giacovazzi, CEO of the Wyloo parent company, will oversee all programs across the country, said Keren Yun, adding there’s an “established team in Canada overseeing the development of Eagle’s Nest and programs in Northern Ontario (Sustainability, Projects, Exploration).”
