Two nights after dropping a tough 5-2 loss against the Barrie Colts, the Sudbury Wolves were back on home ice at the Sudbury Community Arena on Friday night to take on the powerhouse London Knights.

The Sudbury Wolves came away with a huge victory, scoring  6-3.

Sebastian Gatto got the start in goal for the London Knights while Bjorn Bronas made his first career Ontario Hockey League start in goal for the Sudbury Wolves.

The Knights got off to the start they were looking for, with Braidy Wassilyn scoring his 10th goal of the season after intercepting a pass and a deke around Wolves defensemen, an unassisted goal, giving London an early 1-0 lead.

With 2:05 remaining in the opening period, and with Jaxon Cover for London serving a minor penalty for slashing, the Wolves scored on the power play with Daniel Berehowsky’s second goal of the season after receiving a pass from Kieron Walton from behind the net, assisted by Kieron Walton and Nathan Villeneuve, tying the game 1-1 after the first period of the game.

At the 3:22 mark of the second period, and with Cover back in the penalty box for tripping, Artem Gonchar picked up a rebound from Villeneuve scored on the power play for his fifth goal of the season, with Nathan Villeneuve and Jan Chovan picking up the assists, putting the Sudbury Wolves in front by a score of 2-1.

With 4:04 left to play in the middle frame, Wolves Captain Nathan Villeneuve picked up the puck after Walton had his shot blocked, and put the puck in the net for his 10th goal of the season, assisted by Kieron Walton and Chase Coughlan, ending the second period with the Sudbury Wolves leading the London Knights by a score of 3-1.

A very busy third period began with a power play goal for the London Knights, when Alex Pharand for Sudbury picked up a penalty for hooking, with Sam O’Reilly picking up his 10th goal of the season after tipping in a shot from the point, with the assists going to Jaxon Cover and Henry Brzustewicz, making the score 3-2 for the Wolves.

Just over halfway through the third period, Seattle Kraken prospect Kieron Walton blocked a shot in the Wolves’ defensive zone scored and then scored an unassisted goal on the breakaway for his 12th of the season, restoring the Wolves’ lead to 4-2.

At the 11:40 mark of the third, and with Andoni Fimis for London serving a Delay of Game penalty, the Knights scored a short-handed goal, notched by Sam O’Reilly after receiving a cross ice pass from a teammate for his second goal of the game, assisted by Braiden Clark, making the score 4-3 for the Sudbury Wolves.

Chase Coughlan for the Wolves scored his eighth goal of the season on an empty net with 2:05 remaining, an unassisted goal, increasing Sudbury’s lead to 5-3.

Sudbury added one more empty net goal with exactly one minute left in the hockey game, with Gavin Ewles’ second goal of the season, assisted by Rowan Henderson and Hudson Martin, sealing a 6-3 victory for the Sudbury Wolves over the London Knights.
