La Slague presents Au bistro des découvertes

Jan. 13

The formula is as follows: a well-known figure in Francophone musical circles invites us to meet a lesser-known, yet highly talented musical acquaintance. A high-school friend. A rising star. A talented back-up band member. A dream-come-true stage partner. One thing is sure: it will be a memorable encounter. In this edition, Breen LeBoeuf presents Phil Roze. Nouvelon French Education information night

Jan. 14

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon invites parents and guardians to a presentation on the benefits of French education Jan. 14. The session, entitled “French Education: an informed choice for your child’s future” (L’éducation en français : un choix éclairé pour l’avenir de votre enfant), is hosted by Chantal Mayer-Crittenden, speech and language pathologist and associate professor at Laurentian University’s School of Speech-Language Pathology. The event will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 14, starting at 5:15 p.m. at École catholique Notre-Place, located at 4385 Municipal Road 80, Val Thérèse. Free child care for children aged 3 to 8 and a pizza dinner will be offered to participating families. This session, organized by the CSC Nouvelon Parent Involvement Committee, is intended for families who use French infrequently in their daily lives and are considering enrolling their child in a French-language school.

Taste of Sudbury

Jan. 15

Featuring more than 25 local vendor booths, the next Taste of Sudbury Food and Drink Festival is taking place on Jan. 15 at the Caruso Club’s upper hall. Tickets are $85 each and the event is in support of the Inner City Home, which provides emergency food bank services to approximately 1,200 households a month throughout the city. The event is a Greater Sudbury Hospitality Association and Jana Hospitality Consulting production, and the event will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are available by clicking here. Tickets can also be secured through Schilkie directly by emailing [email protected]. It has been a sold-out event every year. Restaurateurs will be vying for the titles of best booth, most unique libation sample and most unique food sample.

CFUW meeting with guest speaker Fran Calderelli

Jan. 19

The Canadian Federation of University Women Sudbury invites women from all walks of life to attend its upcoming meeting Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at Grace United Church (1530 Bancroft Dr.). The meeting is billed as “an inspiring evening focused on women’s leadership in our community.” The guest speaker will be former City of Greater Sudbury city councillor, community activist and retired registered nurse Fran Calderilli. She will “share her experience and insights on building a strong, inclusive community through women’s leadership.”

EDGE+ Conference hosted by Spark Employment Services

Jan 20 and 21

Spark Employment Services is once again hosting the EDGE+ Conference, taking place January 20 to 21, 2026 at the Radisson Hotel in Sudbury. This free, one-and-a-half-day event will gather leaders, HR professionals, community organizations, and “changemakers" to explore strategies for building more accessible, inclusive, and resilient workplaces, states a release from Sparks. With the theme “Accessibility and Inclusivity in the Workplace”, EDGE+ 2026 will feature “expert-led panels, hands-on workshops, interactive sessions” and a keynote address (speaker to be announced). Attendees will have the opportunity to learn practical tools, resources, and connections to “create lasting impact within their organizations.” Find more information by clicking here.

YES Theatre presents 80 Years Young: Celebrating Music Legend Neil Young

Jan. 22-23

Join YES Theatre for a New Year celebration of Canadian music Icon. This concert will be a feast for the ears as your favourite YES Theatre singers and musicians take on the iconic music for a theatrical journey through the greatest young hits arranged by Barry Miles! SPG presents comedian Derek Seguin

Jan. 24

Don’t miss your chance to see well-known Canadian comedian Derek Seguin up close in this intimate and hilarious night out. There will be two shows at Cousin Vinny’s in Hanmer - 6:30 p.m. buffet and 8 p.m. show, as well as a 10 p.m. late-night show. Purchase tickets online here.

Onaping Falls Winter Carnival

Enjoy a week of family fun at the Onaping Falls Winter Carnival Jan. 26-Feb. 1. Adult carnival buttons are $5 each and include a raffle draw for cash prizes. Par ici le talent 3

Jan. 30-31

For the 3rd edition of Par ici le talent: Liens souterrains, the organizing committee is concocting an ambitious community theatre project aimed at creating rich and lasting links between newcomers and the host community. A great cultural braiding is in the works. A project in collaboration with TNO, La Slague, le Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury and la Communauté francophone accueillante de Sudbury. Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts

Jan. 31

The Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts is a concert presented by the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Sudbury Arts Council. This special event features Mayor Paul Lefebvre performing on both piano and saxophone, including works by the celebrated Canadian composer André Gagnon. Guest artists include YES Theatre, who will join the orchestra for select performances, as well as Poet Laureate Alex Tetreault. Together, they create an inspiring celebration of Sudbury’s artistic excellence and the spirit of collaboration that defines our community. Seedy Sunday

Feb. 1

Seedy Sunday returns Feb. 1, with offerings for everyone from the experienced seed saving enthusiast and gardener to those wanting to pick up a new hobby. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Collège Boréal. Along with opportunities for exchanging or purchasing locally grown seeds and products from local vendors, the event also boasts highly knowledgeable guest speakers. These include James Smith of Spanish River Carbonite (SRC) Agrominerals, new to Seedy Sunday this year, as well as long time event supporters Garth Wunsch, Peggie Baillie from Three Forks Farms and Phil Beauchamp of Beautiful Fields Farms and Fruit Trees. Topics covered include subjects such as gardening in Northern Ontario, the importance of soil amendments, an introduction to seed saving and scion grafting. As with previous years, participants are encouraged to bring the seeds they’ve collected from their locally grown vegetables, annuals or perennials. For those able to pre-package their seeds, they can be in a simple paper envelope clearly labelled with variety and year collected. For those unable to do so there will be a table to assist with seed packaging.

Walden Winter Carnival

Feb. 5-8

Mark your calendars: The 53rd Walden Winter Carnival will take place February Feb. 5-8. The event’s Facebook page bills it as the largest community winter carnival in the region. Come to Lively and catch an amazing lineup of over 100 activities and events across six main sites. Get into most events with a $5 carnival button. Comedian Jeff Leeson headlines the Carnival Comedy Night Feb. 6 in a ticketed event.

Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

The Art Gallery of Sudbury's Fall 2025 Creative Kids Exhibition runs until Jan. 17 at 174 Elgin St.. The gallery is also currently presenting an off-site exhibitions by Raven Debassige at the Laughing Buddha until Jan. 12 and Judith Duncan at Pinchman's until Feb. 23.
