Mayor’s Tree-Lighting
Dec. 5
Mayor Paul Lefebvre invites the public to take part in the annual Mayor’s Tree-Lighting Ceremony on the evening of Dec. 5. “On Friday, December 5, residents are invited to join Mayor Paul Lefebvre and members of Council for a short and festive Tree Lighting Ceremony in the courtyard of Tom Davies Square,” a news release from the city states. The event begins at 5 p.m. Enjoy BeaverTails from a food truck, arts and crafts and complimentary hot chocolate at the lighting. Attendees can take advantage of free GOVA Transit to the event by telling the bus driver you’re going to the ceremony when you board. The Merry and Bright tree will be lit from Dec. 5 until the week after Orthodox Christmas.
NISA art bazaar
Dec. 5
An art bazaar featuring the work of members takes place at the Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA) Dec. 5. All pieces are handmade or painted by local artists and will be for sale. Pieces by the late Sudbury artist Ray Laporte will also be on display. The proceeds will directly benefit the artists. Purchases are via e-transfer only. NISA is a local non-profit dedicated to mental health and recovery. Art has long played an important role in mental health recovery, especially at NISA, said a press release. It offers connection, expression and hope. This event highlights the transformative impact of creativity — both for artists and the broader community. The event takes place at NISA’s location at 36 Elgin St. (second floor) from 2-6 p.m. Dec. 5.
Porchetta documentary screening

Two videographers have made it their mission to solve the history and mystery of how porchetta became unique to Sudbury with their upcoming film party for “Porchetta di Sudbury.” Videographers Brandon Gray and Jonathan Danyliw are the sleuths behind the 26-minute documentary. The film plays Dec. 5-6 at Knox Hall in downtown Sudbury. Showtime is 7 p.m. both days with the porchetta reception to follow after. Beaver Lake Christmas Craft Fair

The Beaver Lake Fall Christmas Craft Fair and Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Beaver Lake Sports & Cultural Club, located at 45 Club Road, Worthington.This year's fair will feature a Finnish Pancake Breakfast, breakfast and visit with Santa, various vendor crafts and a bake table.
Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl

The Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl takes place from 12-5 p.m. Dec. 6. This is a free event for artists and businesses alike to show off what they are best at. Check out beautiful creative pieces for sale and enjoy small bites and specialty drinks at various downtown locations while you browse and shop for Christmas and enjoy some live painting. SSO presents Christmas Spectacular

This December, the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra rings in the season with our sparkling Christmas Spectacular, with guest soprano Pamela Teed and narration by Alessandro Costantini! From the cozy classics of Silver Bells and Deck the Halls! to the playful sparkle of March of the Toys, this concert is packed with music to delight every listener. Annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities Gala

The Independent Living Sudbury Manitoulin (ILSM) organization is stepping back a few years to celebrate the ILSM’s 16th Annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities Gala. The event — with the theme Groove Back Into the '80s — is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 85 Ste. Anne Rd., Sudbury, said a news release. At the groove event, guests are invited to wear 1980's attire that promises to transport you back to that colourful and energetic era that will leave you breathless with the great songs of that era, despite Every Breath You Take. Tickets for the groove gala event can be purchased online. The general admission is $100 per person and includes dinner. Full tables cost $740 for a table of eight, which includes dinner for all eight guests. Tickets are available now and can be purchased at ilsm.ca/events. Seating is limited, so early purchase is recommended.
Santa Shuffle

Grab your fake beard and throw on something red because the annual Santa Shuffle charity fun run is set for Dec. 6 this year. A national fundraising event, the Santa Shuffle offers a five-km Fun Elf Run and a one-km Elf Walk, which is more suited for all ages and skill levels. Locally, all proceeds raised by the run will support the operation of Cedar Place, an emergency shelter operated by the Salvation Army for women and families facing homelessness. The event will be held at Delki Dozzi Running Track, 3 Mary St. Participants pay a fee to participate, but are also encouraged to collect pledges to maximize their charitable giving. Registration on Dec. 6 begins at 9 a.m. The run itself begins at 10 a.m. There are prizes to be won as well. To register, visit SantaShuffle.ca.
SPG presents Once Upon a One More Time

What happens when your favourite fairytale princesses get a brand-new storybook twist? In this dazzling new Broadway musical, Once Upon a One More Time, the classic world of “happily ever after” collides with the music of global pop icon Britney Spears. Full of humor, heart, and girl-power magic, Once Upon a One More Time is a musical celebration of self-discovery, friendship, and the freedom to define your own story. Winter Wonderlights

Winter Wonderlights returns to Whitewater Park in Azilda starting on Dec. 12, promising a bigger, more impressive event than in previous years. Winter Wonderlights features 16 visitor kiosks that bring to life various Christmas carols. The display also includes a lamp comprised of 16 mini pods that lights up the park. The opening event on Dec. 12 begins at 6 p.m. Hot chocolate will be available to warm folks up and Chorale Heritage will be on hand to perform. The countdown to the lighting ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. The lights will be on each evening from Dec. 13, 2025 to Jan. 1, 2026, between 6-9 p.m. Besides the public viewings, renowned Franco-Ontarian performer Chuck Labelle will be on hand to perform two shows at Winter Wonderlights on Dec. 19.
Café Heritage presents Le Réveillon

Le Réveillon happens Dec. 13 at the Lionel E. Lalonde Centre. “As Francophones, Métis, and or Acadian you will be extremely proud of the agenda we have created for you,” said the website for Café Heritage. “Incredible food, music, song, dance and a little bit of wine will go a long way in making this an evening you will not want to miss.” The event starts at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $65 each. A Sudbury Christmas Carol

It’s the story of Scrooge and the ghosts, but with a Sudbury twist. Find out how the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean miser from Sudbury, became the Charles Dickens classic. Time travel back with a cast of 15 and enjoy the many Sudbury references as the tale comes to life in this staged radio drama This one-time-only production is a fundraiser for CKLU campus and community radio and the Sudbury Food Bank. Young Sudbury Singers concert

The Young Sudbury Singers will present a concert of seasonal favourites Dec. 14, featuring the enthusiastic voices of the 50 children and youth in our four choirs. Audience sing-along opportunities will be included. The concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14, starting at 2 pm, in the McKellar Auditorium at Lockerby Composite School, 1391 Ramsey View Ct. in Sudbury. ReDeck the Halls Holiday Market

This holiday season, shoppers can find gifts that are good for the planet and their wallets at the first annual reDeck the Halls Holiday Market, taking place Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Northern Water Sports Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by reThink Green, the market highlights the growing shift toward circular, low-waste holiday shopping. Visitors can explore vintage pieces, repurposed goods, thrifted finds, and eco-conscious products from local vendors across Greater Sudbury. Menorah lighting

All are welcome to attend the second annual menorah lighting on Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. in the atrium at Tom Davies Square. Hosted by the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue, an unaffiliated community-led synagogue in Sudbury, the now annual event began just last year. You can find more information about the menorah lighting here.
