Sudbury Secondary presents Grease: School Version

Nov. 28-29

The Sudbury Secondary School Arts Department invites the community to flash back to the 1950s with a production of “Grease: School Version” presented with special arrangement by Samuel French Inc., a Concord Theatricals Company. The show started last weekend, but further public performances will take place on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Sheridan Auditorium. Tickets, at $25 for adults and $15 for seniors and students 12 years and under, can be purchased at the door or through SchoolCash Online.

NLFB presents Don Ross and Julie Malia

Nov. 28 

Sudbury music lovers are in for a treat as world-renowned guitarist Don Ross and acclaimed German singer-songwriter Julie Malia bring their international tour to Knox Hall Nov. 28 in a show presented by Northern Lights Festival Boréal. This special concert showcases the unique partnership between two outstanding solo artists. The show runs starting at 8 p.m. Nov. 28 at Knox Hall (73 Larch St.). Atikameksheng Anishnawbek’s Nishmas Holiday Market

Nov. 29

Whether you’re shopping for gifts, or gifts for yourself, you can head to Atikamekshng Anishnawbek’s community centre (37 Reserve Road) on Saturday, Nov. 29 to enjoy the new Whippoorwill Café and the Nishmas Holiday Market, featuring local Indigenous artists and entrepreneurs. Running from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the market will showcase handcrafted goods, artwork,  beadwork, and cultural creations as well as live musical performances from Atikameksheng’s own Kendal Cote, as well as artists Elijah Manitowabi from Wikwemikong and Matt James from Mattagami First Nation. 

CPKC Holiday Train

Nov. 30

The CPKC Holiday Train will be visiting Sudbury on Nov. 30 as part of its tour of Canada. The train will arrive at the Via Train Station on Elgin Street at around 9:15 p.m. You can view the full schedule for the tour here.The performers in Sudbury this year will be country musicians Jade Eagleson and Teigen Gayse. “The 2025 CPKC Holiday Train will tour Canada and the U.S. Nov. 19 through Dec. 21, raising money, food and awareness to support food banks across our network,” said the CPKC website. “Professional musicians play free concerts from the brightly decorated train's stage. CPKC donates to the local food bank at each stop and encourages all attendees to make a monetary or heart-healthy food donation. “Since its inaugural journey in 1999, the CPKC Holiday Train has raised more than $26 million and collected approximately 5.4 million pounds of food for community food banks in Canada and the U.S.”

Holi-GAY party 

Dec. 1 

The Holi-GAY Party, a festive evening of community, joy and inclusive fun, takes place Dec. 1 at the Northern Water Sports Centre. The event is hosted by Fierté Sudbury Pride, in collaboration with Laurentian University Pride and the PFLAG Sudbury Chapter. The event will feature a special guest: SPURS Night, the celebrated queer line dancing phenomenon from Toronto. Attendees can look forward to a beginner-friendly line dancing workshop, bringing a dose of euphoric, boot-scootin' energy to Sudbury. For those who prefer a different kind of creativity, a holiday crafting station will be available. The evening will be fueled by heartwarming, buffet-style food provided by Simply Sonia, along with tasty snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. The Holi-GAY Party is a free, all-ages community event designed to celebrate the season in a welcoming and vibrant space centered around 2S-LGBTQIA+ folks and allies. Mayor’s Tree-Lighting

Dec. 5 

Mayor Paul Lefebvre invites the public to take part in the annual Mayor’s Tree-Lighting Ceremony on the evening of Dec. 5. “On Friday, December 5, residents are invited to join Mayor Paul Lefebvre and members of Council for a short and festive Tree Lighting Ceremony in the courtyard of Tom Davies Square,” a news release from the city states. The event begins at 5 p.m. Enjoy BeaverTails from a food truck, arts and crafts and complimentary hot chocolate at the lighting. Attendees can take advantage of free GOVA Transit to the event by telling the bus driver you’re going to the ceremony when you board. The Merry and Bright tree will be lit from Dec. 5 until the week after Orthodox Christmas. 

Beaver Lake Christmas Craft Fair 

Dec. 5

The Beaver Lake Fall Christmas Craft Fair and Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Beaver Lake Sports & Cultural Club, located at 45 Club Road, Worthington.This year's fair will feature a Finnish Pancake Breakfast, breakfast and visit with Santa, various vendor crafts and a bake table. 

NISA art bazaar 

Dec. 5

An art bazaar featuring the work of members takes place at the Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA) Dec. 5. All pieces are handmade or painted by local artists and will be for sale. Pieces by the late Sudbury artist Ray Laporte will also be on display. The proceeds will directly benefit the artists. Purchases are via e-transfer only. NISA is a local non-profit dedicated to mental health and recovery. Art has long played an important role in mental health recovery, especially at NISA, said a press release. It offers connection, expression and hope. This event highlights the transformative impact of creativity — both for artists and the broader community. The event takes place at NISA’s location at 36 Elgin St. (second floor) from 2-6 p.m. Dec. 5. 

Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl

Dec. 6

The Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl takes place from 12-5 p.m. Dec. 6. This is a free event for artists and businesses alike to show off what they are best at. Check out beautiful creative pieces for sale and enjoy small bites and specialty drinks at various downtown locations while you browse and shop for Christmas and enjoy some live painting. Shop, walk and be entertained by live musicians and painters. There will be more than 50 artists at more than 30 locations to visit. Support your favourite local artists and discover new ones.

SSO presents Christmas Spectacular 

Dec. 6 

This December, the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra rings in the season with our sparkling Christmas Spectacular, with guest soprano Pamela Teed and narration by Alessandro Costantini! From the cozy classics of Silver Bells and Deck the Halls! to the playful sparkle of March of the Toys, this concert is packed with music to delight every listener. The show runs at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Sudbury Secondary School’s Sheridan Auditorium. Purchase tickets online here.

Christmas sing-along and concert

Dec. 6

You can join Sarah Craig and local musicians, Jubilation, Saturday Dec. 6 beginning at 7 p.m. at Grace United Church (1520 Bancroft Drive) for an evening of music and Christmas cheer. Then, stay for refreshments and fellowship after the concert. Silver collection the door. 

Annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities Gala

Dec. 6 

The Independent Living Sudbury Manitoulin (ILSM) organization is stepping back a few years to celebrate the ILSM’s 16th Annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities Gala. The event — with the theme Groove Back Into the '80s — is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 85 Ste. Anne Rd., Sudbury, said a news release. At the groove event, guests are invited to wear 1980's attire that promises to transport you back to that colourful and energetic era that will leave you breathless with the great songs of that era, despite Every Breath You Take. Tickets for the groove gala event can be purchased online. The general admission is $100 per person and includes dinner. Full tables cost $740 for a table of eight, which includes dinner for all eight guests. Tickets are available now and can be purchased at ilsm.ca/events. Seating is limited, so early purchase is recommended.

Santa Shuffle

Dec. 6 

Grab your fake beard and throw on something red because the annual Santa Shuffle charity fun run is set for Dec. 6 this year. A national fundraising event, the Santa Shuffle offers a five-km Fun Elf Run and a one-km Elf Walk, which is more suited for all ages and skill levels. Locally, all proceeds raised by the run will support the operation of Cedar Place, an emergency shelter operated by the Salvation Army for women and families facing homelessness. The event will be held at Delki Dozzi Running Track, 3 Mary St. Participants pay a fee to participate, but are also encouraged to collect pledges to maximize their charitable giving. Registration on Dec. 6 begins at 9 a.m. The run itself begins at 10 a.m. There are prizes to be won as well. To register, visit SantaShuffle.ca

SPG presents Once Upon a One More Time 

Dec. 11 to Dec. 20

What happens when your favourite fairytale princesses get a brand-new storybook twist? In this dazzling new Broadway musical, Once Upon a One More Time, the classic world of “happily ever after” collides with the music of global pop icon Britney Spears. Full of humor, heart, and girl-power magic, Once Upon a One More Time is a musical celebration of self-discovery, friendship, and the freedom to define your own story. The Sudbury Performance Group show runs at Thorneloe University on the Laurentian campus Dec. 11 through until Dec. 20. Purchase tickets online here.

Café Heritage presents Le Réveillon

Dec. 13 

Le Réveillon happens Dec. 13 at the Lionel E. Lalonde Centre. “As Francophones, Métis, and or Acadian you will be extremely proud of the agenda we have created for you,” said the website for Café Heritage. “Incredible food, music, song, dance and a little bit of wine will go a long way in making this an evening you will not want to miss.” The event starts at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $65 each. Celebrate Christmas with Les Troubadours

Dec. 14

Celebrate the festive season with Les Troubadours, Sudbury’s Francophone choir, which has been bringing joy to the community through music and song for over 30 years. For their grand 2025 Christmas concert, co-produced with La Slague, Les Troubadours invite you on a musical journey filled with tradition and emotion. The show runs at Place des Arts Dec. 14 at 2:30 p.m. Purchase tickets online here.

A Sudbury Christmas Carol

Dec. 14

It’s the story of Scrooge and the ghosts, but with a Sudbury twist. Find out how the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean miser from Sudbury, became the Charles Dickens classic. Time travel back with a cast of 15 and enjoy the many Sudbury references as the tale comes to life in this staged radio drama  This one-time-only production is a fundraiser for CKLU campus and community radio and the Sudbury Food Bank. Tickets are $25 and are available online at CKLU.ca or in person at A&J Home Hardware and Jett Landry Music. Head to Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School at 2 p.m. on Dec. 14 to get in on the fun. 

GNO presents Nouveau Louvre

Let’s party! The GNO is back with its long-awaited annual event: Le Nouveau Louvre, a holiday art sale! This exhibition celebrates the richness of our artistic community by showcasing works submitted by artists from near and abroad. Whether it’s your first time or 30th, we can’t wait to share this edition with you. Shop in person at the GNO (or online at gn-o.org) to find that rare gem. All works are sold for $225. Profits are shared between the artist and the GNO.

YES Theatre presents Annie

1933. New York City. In the grip of the "Great Depression," a spirited orphan has a dream of escaping the Hudson Street Orphanage and finding her real parents. Based on the popular syndicated comic strip, Annie is a hero whose superpower is ingenuity and guts. It's a musical about the necessity and perils of optimism, with an eye on realities and a gear for change. Featuring unforgettable songs like, "Tomorrow" and "It's A Hard Knock Life" - this new production delivers joy, edge and inspiration. Directed by award winning Peter Hinton-Davis (Shaw Festival, Canadian Opera Company, National Arts Centre) It's gonna be an Annie like no other! The show runs until Dec. 21 at Sudbury Theatre Centre. Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

The opening reception for the Art Gallery of Sudbury's Fall 2025 Creative Kids Exhibition takes place Dec. 11 from 5-6:30 p.m. at its exhibition space at 174 Elgin Street.Opening remarks will begin at 5:30pm. Refreshments will be served. The gallery is also currently presenting an off-site exhibitions by Raven Debassige at the Laughing Buddha until Jan. 12 and Judith Duncan at Pinchman's until Feb. 23.
