HSN Research Institute presents Catalyst 2025

The purchase of Health Sciences North 50/50 cash lottery tickets is paying off in many tangible ways for the health care community, said a news release from the Health Sciences North Foundation (HSNF). The Foundation has approved $300,000 in new research funding to help local clinicians, scientists and researchers drive innovations in cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment, said the release. Community members are being invited to see these research projects come to life at Catalyst 2025, hosted by the Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) on Nov. 6 at Science North’s Vale Cavern in Sudbury. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. said the release. The event is free but registration tickets can be booked online.
Music From the Hearth two-piano concert

A two-piano concert by Ari Snyder and Charlene Biggs runs at St. Andrew’s Place in downtown Sudbury Nov. 7. A fundraiser for St. Andrew’s United Church, the show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults and seniors and $10 for children and youth, with tickets available at the door (or reserve them by phoning 450-522 6350 or 705-662-0115. The concert is entitled Music from the Hearth to emphasize that the music to be performed represents the deepest, most heart-felt aspirations of composers and audiences over the last few centuries. This music is very like the songs and stories told around the communal hearths of our ancestors — for the hearth was the very centre of the home, and of the community. We listen to this music in order to remember and share what is best of the human experience. Composers for this programme include Bach, Chopin, Debussy, Gershwin and Rachmaninoff.
Cambrian College open house

SOAR Film Festival

SOAR Film Festival is Eastern Canada’s largest wilderness film festival. A unique partnership between Laurentian University’s Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program (ADVL) and Sudbury Indie Cinema has allowed adventure film to SOAR. La Slague and TNO present Le Téton Tardif

Le Téton Tardif is more than a solo performance. It is an intimate and eye-opening journey through the complexities of female identity. Caroline invites us into her inner world, where breasts become the focal point of a story rich in emotion, humour, and introspection. Blending stand-up comedy, theatrical drama, and physical expression, she challenges us to reconsider our perceptions of beauty, sexuality, and self-worth in a society shaped by media and pop culture. This show is a co-production by Caroline Raynaud and Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario, presented in co-presentation by La Slague and Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario. The Little Kickers Northern Ontario, in partnership with Kumon (Montrose Mall), is proud to present the 2nd Annual Little Kickers Wonderland, taking place on Sunday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cambrian College Gym. To ensure accessibility for everyone, the event will include a low-sensory friendly hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., featuring a quieter environment, said a news release. This exciting family event is a Mini Santa’s Village fundraiser in support of Our Children, Our Future/Nos enfants, notre avenir. Greater Sudbury Santa Claus Parade

This year’s Santa Claus parade takes place Nov. 22 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Sudbury. The theme for this year’s parade is Christmas movies. If you want some value-added fun for the youngsters in your family, check out the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario located on Durham Street on parade day, between 2-4 p.m. "Stop at the Y between two and four for hot chocolate, cookies and to write your letters to Santa ahead of the parade," said YMCA vice president of health and wellness, Kendra MacIsaac, who is also a co-chair of the BIA. There is still room in the parade to accept floats and entries. The deadline is Friday Nov. 7 and those who wish to be part of the parade can contact the Sudbury BIA at [email protected] or check out the BIA website for registration.
Cinéfest presents "Merrily We Roll Along"

Celebrate the magic of Sondheim with Cinéfest Sudbury on Nov. 26 at 7 p.m., as they screen the musical Merrily We Roll Along starring Daniel Radcliffe, best known for the Harry Potter franchise, as well as Jonathan Groff (Hamilton), and Lindsay Mendez. The film, which was originally slated to screen at the 37th edition of Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, will screen as the final film in this year’s Cinéfest Red Carpet Patron Program. NLFB presents Don Ross and Julie Malia

Sudbury music lovers are in for a treat as world-renowned guitarist Don Ross and acclaimed German singer-songwriter Julie Malia bring their international tour to Knox Hall Nov. 28 in a show presented by Northern Lights Festival Boréal. Annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities Gala

The Independent Living Sudbury Manitoulin (ILSM) organization is stepping back a few years to celebrate the ILSM’s 16th Annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities Gala. The event — with the theme Groove Back Into the '80s — is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 85 Ste. Anne Rd., Sudbury, said a news release. At the groove event, guests are invited to wear 1980's attire that promises to transport you back to that colourful and energetic era that will leave you breathless with the great songs of that era, despite Every Breath You Take. Tickets for the groove gala event can be purchased online. The general admission is $100 per person and includes dinner. Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

The Art Gallery of Sudbury’s exhibition Watershed Lessons continues until Saturday, Nov. 22 at the gallery’s 174 Elgin St. location. It features works by students from Laurentian University’s McEwen School of Architecture and explores the importance of Sudbury’s watersheds and water systems, our connections to them, and the lessons we can learn from them.
