Northern Screams presents The Infirmary

Until Oct. 31

Sudbury Northern Screams presents The Infirmary, set to plunge visitors into a new level of fear this fall. This indoor haunted attraction promises an immersive fear experience that will terrify you, and warns it’s not for the faint of heart and children under 13 must be with an adult. Running weekends from Oct. 10 to Oct. 31 and hosted at the Sudbury Events Centre (formerly the Mine Mill Hall, 19 Regent Street) the thrills start at 7 p.m. and run through 10 p.m., including both “Devil’s Night” and Halloween, Oct. 30 and 31. 

SWC BOObie Bra Drive

Oct. 31 

SWC (Sudbury Women’s Centre) is once again championing the needs of women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals here in Greater Sudbury through their annual BOObie Bra Drive. The Centre is aiming to stock its shelves ahead of the winter months, through the collection of new/unopened bras, underwear, socks and hygiene products. A number of collection sites have been set up in Greater Sudbury. The drive runs until Oct. 31. Learn more online here.

Mooncrater Theatre presents Rocky Horror Picture Show - with a shadow cast 

Until Nov. 1

If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy the cult-classic Rocky Horror Picture Show the way it was meant to be shown, with a local shadow cast offering a live entertainment event, head to the Sudbury Indie Cinema for their four-night extravaganza. In the now infamous film, a newly engaged couple get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and find themselves at the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter and a variety of eccentric characters who live there. Through elaborate dance and rock music, the mad scientist unveils his latest creation: a perfect, muscular man. There are four showtimes - Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 8:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets here. 

Between Us Ladies dinner 

Nov. 1 

The Caruso Club in Sudbury is set to come alive Nov. 1 for the fifth edition of the Between Us Ladies dinner soirée, hosted by the Sudbury-based women’s-empowerment organization, Imperfection Lives Here.  More than just an event, the organization describes it as “a transformative gathering where more than 150 women from Sudbury and across the province will come together to celebrate women’s leadership, unity, and the power of connection.”  The evening, which begins at 6 p.m., is built around a dinner as well as mentorship opportunities, and this year, attendees will hear a keynote address from Lisa Lounsbury. Grace United Church Fall Fling 

Nov. 1 

Grace United Church holds its annual Fall Fling fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1. The event includes lunch (soup, sandwiches, dessert, beverages), a quilt raffle, penny table, white elephant table, bake table and more. Tickets $20 adults, $10 kids 6-12 and free for kids under 6. All draws take place at 3 p.m. The church is located at 1520 Bancroft Dr.

Nyama Nyama Experience 3

Nov. 1 

Fans of the sounds of African-inspired live music should get ready for the third edition of the Nyama Nyama Experience, taking the stage at the Northern Watersport Centre on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. It’s an evening of what the event organizers describe as “an unparalleled celebration of culture, music and culinary delights.”  The event is organized by Nyama Nyama Sound, a Sudbury-based music company housing a number of artists, producers and creatives. Sudbury Music Festival AGM

Nov. 3

Sudbury Music Festival invites musically minded community members to attend its Annual General Meeting Nov. 3. The meeting will be held starting at 6:30 p.m. in the library at Sudbury Secondary School. Anyone can attend the AGM but only SMF members can vote. Membership fees are $40 for individuals ($30 if purchased at or before the AGM) and $50 for organizations. These fees play a vital role in supporting the festival and enable Sudbury Music Festival to continue fostering a vibrant musical community in the future. Carmen Martorella Project 365 exhibit 

Nov. 15 and 16

Artist Carmen Martorella is celebrating her accomplishment in fulfilling her daily art challenge of completing one painting daily for the past year starting from Nov. 5. She invites patrons to join her for a celebratory Project 364 Art Exhibition and reception Nov. 15 and 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and view all of her 365 paintings. 

Music From the Hearth two-piano concert

Nov. 7 

A two-piano concert by Ari Snyder and Charlene Biggs runs at St. Andrew’s Place in downtown Sudbury Nov. 7. A fundraiser for St. Andrew’s United Church, the show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults and seniors and $10 for children and youth, with tickets available at the door (or reserve them by phoning 450-522 6350 or 705-662-0115. The concert is entitled Music from the Hearth to emphasize that the music to be performed represents the deepest, most heart-felt aspirations of composers and audiences over the last few centuries.  This music is very like the songs and stories told around the communal hearths of our ancestors — for the hearth was the very centre of the home, and of the community.  We listen to this music in order to remember and share what is best of the human experience. Composers for this programme include Bach, Chopin, Debussy, Gershwin and Rachmaninoff. 

Cambrian College open house 

Nov. 8

Cambrian College is getting ready for one of its busiest days of the year and you are invited. Cambrian’s annual Fall Open House is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its main Barry Downe campus in Greater Sudbury. SOAR Film Festival 

Nov. 13-16 

SOAR Film Festival is Eastern Canada’s largest wilderness film festival. A unique partnership between Laurentian University’s Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program (ADVL) and Sudbury Indie Cinema has allowed adventure film to SOAR. The festival’s fifth edition runs Thursday, Nov. 13 to Sunday, Nov. 16, extending the programming by opening Thursday night. Purchase tickets online here.

Preparing your neighbourhood for climate change

Nov. 15

You are invited to "Neighbourhoods for Nature, Caring Communities: Taking action together to prepare our families, homes and neighbourhoods for climate change", Saturday, Nov, 15, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., at the Main Branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library, 74 Mackenzie St.  Connections to information, resources and community groups. Activities for all ages.  Community swaps. Free snacks. Presentations and more. Hosted by Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, in partnership with Greater Sudbury Public Library. Greater Sudbury Santa Claus Parade 

Nov. 22 

This year’s Santa Claus parade takes place Nov. 22 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Sudbury. The theme for this year’s parade is Christmas movies. If you want some value-added fun for the youngsters in your family, check out the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario located on Durham Street on parade day, between 2-4 p.m. "Stop at the Y between two and four for hot chocolate, cookies and to write your letters to Santa ahead of the parade," said YMCA vice president of health and wellness, Kendra MacIsaac, who is also a co-chair of the BIA. There is still room in the parade to accept floats and entries. The deadline is Friday Nov. 7 and those who wish to be part of the parade can contact the Sudbury BIA at  [email protected] or check out the BIA website for registration.

Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

Ongoing 

The Art Gallery of Sudbury’s exhibition Watershed Lessons continues until Saturday, Nov. 22 at the gallery’s 174 Elgin St. location. It features works by students from Laurentian University’s McEwen School of Architecture and explores the importance of Sudbury’s watersheds and water systems, our connections to them, and the lessons we can learn from them. The gallery also currently has two-off site exhibitions: Alexandre Fishbein-Ouimette until Nov. 17 and Raven Debassige at the Laughing Buddha until Jan. 12. Learn more on the gallery’s website
