Jazz Sudbury Festival

Sudbury Indie Cinema presents Studio Ghibli North

Studio Ghibli North is an annual celebration of the timeless and classic films of the renowned Japanese Film Studio, Studio Ghibli. Featuring nine films over the course of three days alongside as many food vendors with on-theme foods, crafters and more, Studio Ghibli North is the full Studio Ghibli experience. Pepper-eating contest
Sept. 13
Sudbury hot sauce company Peppararos is holding a Hot Pepper Eating Contest September 13 at noon. It will be held at 40 Elm St. in the Sudbury Market. There is a registration fee of $20. SPG and Porchlight present Clue on Stage

It’s a dark and stormy night, and you’ve been invited to a very unusual dinner party. Each of the guests has an alias, the butler offers a variety of weapons, and the host is, well, dead. So whodunit? Join the iconic oddballs known as Scarlet, Plum, White, Green, Peacock, and Mustard as they race to find the murderer in Boddy Manor before the body count stacks up. Based on the cult classic film and the popular board game, CLUE is a madcap comedy that will keep you guessing until the final twist. Junction Creek Fall Community Cleanup

Make a Difference this World Cleanup Day! Join the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee for a community clean-up along Junction Creek near the New Sudbury Centre. The event takes place from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 19. Meet at the New Sudbury Centre in the southwest parking lot by the pedestrian bridge at Junction Creek. SSO presents Magical Symphony Tour

Long before “crossover” was a buzzword, the Beatles were blending classical textures into pop masterpieces. Magical Symphony Tour brings together musicians from the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and Greater Sudbury’s vibrant music scene for a one-night-only concert experience. This concert shines a spotlight on those iconic orchestrations, culminating in a full performance of the beloved Magical Mystery Tour album. With arrangements by Beatles producer Sir George Martin, you’ll hear symphonic winds, strings, and brass in electrifying harmony with guitars, bass, and drums — just as the Beatles imagined. Sudbury Secondary arts education reunion

Sudbury Secondary School will host an evening celebration this fall to mark the 40th anniversary of its arts education program. Alumni, staff, and supporters will come together at the Fromagerie on Elgin Street on Friday, Sept. 19 to commemorate the school’s contribution to arts, culture and education locally. Prior to the evening celebration, the doors of Sudbury Secondary School will be open from 1-3 p.m. to welcome participants for school tours. Championship Dog Shows

The Sudbury and District Kennel Club is hosting three days of Championship Dog Shows at the Toe Blake Arena in Coniston from Sept. 19 to 21. The shows will feature more than 200 Canadian Kennel Club-registered purebred dogs from throughout Canada vying for championship titles and ranking points to determine Canada’s No. 1 dog. The event is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, family pets are not allowed on the grounds, and spectator fees are $5 per adult, $2 for children and family is $10. Seniors over 55 are free. Anderson Farm Fall Fair

The Anderson Farm Museum Heritage Society hosts its 16th annual fall fair on Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy a farmers market and vendors, snack and food vendors, games and activities for kids, antique car show, live animals, plus much more at the Anderson Farm Museum in Lively. French Fest

Get ready to experience an exceptional day: French Fest, a francophone festival that celebrates all the nuances of Sudbury’s francophonie. More than just an event, French Fest is a true reflection of the cultural richness of our community—an invitation to come together, to engage in dialogue, to feel deeply, and to be moved as one. The formula is as follows: a well-known figure in Francophone musical circles invites us to meet a lesser-known, yet highly talented musical acquaintance. Hosting the event September 23 is Patricia Cano. Gifted with charisma and a compelling voice, our Peruvian-born performer from Sudbury is a force of nature. The singer has two magnificent albums to her credit, but also some wonderful recordings made in 2021, during the reign of the pandemic, as part of a project entitled The Love & Resistance Sessions. YES Theatre presents Casey and Diana

Toronto - 1991 - At the height of the global AIDS pandemic, Diana Princess of Wales makes a visit to the Casey House, Canada's first free standing AIDS Hospice. The historic visit sparked a mammoth change in the AIDS Advocacy movement; shepherding a new perspective, smashing stigmas and shifting the hearts and minds of people across the globe. Nick Green's new play has been lauded as one of the greatest new Canadian plays of the decade after debuting with a sold out run at the Stratford Festival followed by acclaimed runs across the country. TNO and La Slague present Mourir de trop gueuler

The Ottawa-based theatre company, Créations In Vivo presents Mourir de trop gueuler, an absurdist, no-holds-barred play in which overexcited bouffons bury a big frog, dead from too much screaming (a subtle metaphor). In this theatrical extravaganza, we laugh, sing, line-dance… and then bring the frog back to life, just in time to ask ourselves THE question: What are we going to do with the next 50 years? This show, co-presented with TNO and La Slague, ties in with the major themes of Franco-Ontarian Day, la Slague’s French Fest, and the 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag, born right here at the University of Sudbury.
