Car wash fundraiser
Aug. 30
Top Glove Boxing Academy is hosting a car wash fundraiser this Saturday, Aug. 30, at Chris’ Your Independent Grocer on Lorne Street. The fundraiser runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Funds raised at the event will “help support, prepare and raise money for our boxers for fight night on Sept. 20,” Top Glove said. Besides the car wash, a barbecue lunch will be available for purchase. A minimum $10 donation is suggested for the car wash.
Labour Day celebration
Sept. 1
Join the Sudbury and District Labour Council for a full-filled family celebration. The event takes place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Delki Dozzi Park, and includes bouncy castles, face painting, ice cream, music and more. Bouncy castles will be “sensory-friendly” from 10-11 a.m. Speeches take place at 11 a.m.
Valley East Days
Sept. 5-7
Valley East Days, which runs Sept. 5-7 this year, is a festival that celebrates the Valley East Community, its residents, and its businesses. The festival is dedicated to providing the highest quality of entertainment for our patrons, by committing to free family activities in the daytime, and affordable musical entertainment in the night time. Northern Ontario Art Association show
Sept. 6
The Northern Ontario Art Association (NOAA) proudly announces its 69th Annual Juried Art Show. An opening reception takes place 6-8:30 p.m. Sept. 5 and the show Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the T.M. Davies Community Centre at 325 Anderson Dr., Lively. This event will showcase an outstanding selection of original works from artists across northern Ontario. The artwork will be juried by two Ontario artists, Lauren Satan and Pierre Sabourin. The show features a wide variety of styles and mediums, reflecting the rich talent and diversity of the visual art being created in the north. This event is open to the public, admission is free and many of the art works will be for sale.
Grandparents Day
Sept. 7
Ward 11 Coun. Bill Leduc is hosting Grandparents Day festivities at Westmount Retirement Residence (599 William Ave.) on Sept. 7 from 12-3 p.m. The event is free to attend and will include free pizza, live music, beverages, giveaways, horse and buggy rides, classic cars and municipal vehicles. The event is a fundraiser for the Sudbury Food Bank.
Jazz Sudbury Festival

Sudbury Indie Cinema presents Studio Ghibli North

Studio Ghibli North is an annual celebration of the timeless and classic films of the renowned Japanese Film Studio, Studio Ghibli. Featuring nine films over the course of three days alongside as many food vendors with on-theme foods, crafters and more, Studio Ghibli North is the full Studio Ghibli experience. YES Theatre presents Casey and Diana

Toronto - 1991 - At the height of the global AIDS pandemic, Diana Princess of Wales makes a visit to the Casey House, Canada's first free standing AIDS Hospice. The historic visit sparked a mammoth change in the AIDS Advocacy movement; shepherding a new perspective, smashing stigmas and shifting the hearts and minds of people across the globe. Nick Green's new play has been lauded as one of the greatest new Canadian plays of the decade after debuting with a sold out run at the Stratford Festival followed by acclaimed runs across the country. SSO presents Magical Symphony Tour

Long before “crossover” was a buzzword, the Beatles were blending classical textures into pop masterpieces. Magical Symphony Tour brings together musicians from the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and Greater Sudbury’s vibrant music scene for a one-night-only concert experience. This concert shines a spotlight on those iconic orchestrations, culminating in a full performance of the beloved Magical Mystery Tour album. With arrangements by Beatles producer Sir George Martin, you’ll hear symphonic winds, strings, and brass in electrifying harmony with guitars, bass, and drums—just as the Beatles imagined. Sudbury Secondary arts education reunion

French Fest

Get ready to experience an exceptional day: French Fest, a francophone festival that celebrates all the nuances of Sudbury’s francophonie. More than just an event, French Fest is a true reflection of the cultural richness of our community—an invitation to come together, to engage in dialogue, to feel deeply, and to be moved as one. Performers include Djely Tapa and Mourir de trop gueuler. Réseau de soutien à l’immigration francophone du Nord de l’Ontario (RIF) will hold a Recognition Ceremony in la Grande salle as part of French Fest. Art Gallery of Sudbury exhibitions

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is running its exhibition The Sky: New Quilts by Judy Martin until Aug. 30 at its 174 Elgin St. location. From her home on Manitowaning Bay, Manitoulin Island, Judy Martin gazes daily at the vast blanket of sky stretching over the water. Each work is a prolonged durational work of time, labour, and design, taking inspiration from the reassuring continuity of the cosmic circles and unseen stars above us. Each quilt is completely unique, involving multiple uses of materials, including linen, silk, cotton, wool, and multiples techniques including natural dying and over-dying, painting, embroidery, and hand-stitching. AGS also has two-off site exhibitions: Alexandre Fishbein-Ouimette until Nov. 17 and Rory Perras at the Laughing Buddha until Sept. 15. Learn more on the gallery’s website.
