Sudbury Wolves drop fifth straight game in 6-3 loss to Barrie Colts

With just four wins on the season and now five consecutive losses, things went from bad to worse for the struggling Sudbury Wolves after a tough night against Barrie

Despite their best efforts, the Sudbury Wolves continue to struggle, losing their fifth game in a row, dropping to four wins, 13 regulation losses, and one overtime loss on the season. They remain in last place in the Ontario Hockey League after a 6-3 loss against division rivals the Barrie Colts.

Hagan Bach got the nod between the pipes for the Barrie Colts and Finn Marshall was the starting goaltender for the Sudbury Wolves. 

Just over eight minutes into the game, with Chase Coughlan serving a two minute minor penalty for Roughing, Kashawn Aitcheson scored on the Colts’ power play when he scored his 13th goal of the season from in the slot in front of Marshall, assisted by Cole Beaudoin and Emil Hemming, putting the Barrie Colts out in front by a 1-0 margin. 

Just under one minute later, Wolves’ captain and Seattle Kraken prospect Nathan Villeneuve tipped in a Kieron Walton point shot behind Bach for his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Kieron Walton and Chase Coughlan, tying the game 1-1. 

At the 9:47 mark of the first period, Aitcheson picked up his own rebound and put the puck behind Marshall for his second goal of the season to regain Barrie’s lead by a score of 2-1.

With 7:51 remaining in the opening period, and with Chase Coughlan back in the penalty box serving a minor penalty for Tripping, Aitcheson completed the first period hat trick with a goal from the point, giving the Barrie Colts a 3-1 lead after the first period of play. 

Owen Leonard played the rest of the game in goal for the Sudbury Wolves in place of Finn Marshall. 

Nathan Villeneuve scored his second goal of the game at the 5:14 mark of the second period with a couple of dekes getting through a couple of Barrie defensemen, putting the puck behind Bach, and bringing Sudbury within a goal, now down just 3-2. 

The Sudbury Wolves tied the game with exactly five minutes to go in the middle frame with Alex Pharand firing off a one timer past Bach for his third goal of the season, with the assists going to Rowan Henderson and Nathan Villeneuve, making the score 3-3 heading into the final period of play.

Just under six and a half minutes into the third, former Sudbury Wolves player Alex Assadourian took a nice pass from a teammate and capitalized with the tie breaking goal and his third goal of the season, assisted by Justin Handsor, allowing the Colts to regain the lead by a score of 4-3. 

With 4:14 left to play in the third period, William Schneid scored his fifth goal of the season after Calvin Crombie passed the puck to Schneid sending him on a breakaway for a goal against Leonard, with the assists going to Jaiden Newton and Calvin Crombie, giving Barrie some insurance and a 5-3 lead. 

With 2:27 remaining in the game, Emil Hemming scored on the empty net for his third goal of the season, assisted by Cole Beaudoin, capping off a 6-3 victory for the Barrie Colts over the Sudbury Wolves. 

The Sudbury Wolves look to regroup with a home game on Sunday, Nov. 9 against the Peterborough Petes, with puck drop scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
