Finding a dead man with a gunshot wound inside a pickup truck has prompted Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) to launch a homicide investigation, said a GSPS news release this morning.
"Shortly before 3:25 p.m. on April 6, 2025, officers were dispatched to an address on Lansdowne Street for a suspicious vehicle. Information provided was that a Black 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 was found in a garage and there appeared to be an unresponsive man inside," said the release.
Those attending the scene included Greater Sudbury Fire Services, Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services and the police.
As firefighters gained entry to the vehicle, paramedics confirmed the man was dead. It was also discovered the man had sustained a gunshot wound. However, police said at this time it has not been determined if the man was shot in the garage on Lansdowne, or shot somewhere else and transported to the location. Police said they have not yet confirmed the specific cause of death.
"The identity of the individual has not yet been confirmed. A postmortem will be conducted through the Coroner’s Office on April 8, 2025 (Tuesday), to assist in identifying the individual and confirming the cause of death," said the release.
Police said the residence on Lansdowne Street was searched and no occupants were inside.
Officers will continue to investigate the connection between the vehicle and the address where it
was located, said police. GSPS Patrol Operations as well as the Forensic Unit are on scene.
Officers will be canvassing the area for information and video surveillance footage, said the GSPS release.
Community members with video surveillance equipment in the area are asked to review the footage and contact police with any relevant information. Community members are also encouraged to register their video surveillance equipment on CAMSafe via www.camsafe.ca
Anyone with information related to this incident or the involved vehicle is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477.
