The Sudbury Five have won the Basketball Super League for the first time, and with it, another first: the first professional sports championship in Nickel City history.
After a heated back and forth, the Five won game five of the playoff series 103 to 91 against the Windsor Express.
The series was a back and forth for all five games, with game one going to the Five in an overtime thriller April 18. A 104-87 loss to the Express in game two meant a tie for the series, but game three saw the Five take the win 95-88.
But game four in Windsor was a tough defeat, with a final score of 85-79.
Of course, the April 29 win was a balm for that ache. When the final buzzer went, the team poured onto the court, celebrating and cheering.
The Basketball Super League's award for Most Outstanding Performance went to Sudbury Five power forward, JD Miller.
Stay tuned, Sudbury.com will feature a full recap of the game tomorrow.
