Henry (Heindrich) Spyrka

Henry Spyrka , the beloved husband of Louise, passed away peacefully January 4, 2026, in Sudbury . Henry was born January 10 , 1944 in Poland. Henry leaves behind his loving wife Louise, with whom he shared 58 years of a wonderful journey together. He will also be deeply missed by his sisters Sally and Lydia and by his nieces and nephews – Bryan, Mark, Lise, Jean, Rhéal, Michel and Chantal.

A proud graduate of Laurentian University, Henry not only excelled in his studies but also led by example as captain of the university basketball team- a role that reflected his natural leadership and team spirit. Henry dedicated his professional life to teaching, where he inspired countless students with his genuine caring attitude. He was deeply appreciated by colleagues and the many young lives he touched throughout his career.

Alongside his devoted wife, Louise, Henry enjoyed his retirement years exploring Canada and the United States in their RV creating many cherished memories. Of all their travels , the Yukon was his favourite place. Henry led a very active lifestyle as a runner and cyclist for many years. He was an avid and skilled canoeist paddling many Northern Ontario rivers in the summers. Their adventuresome spirit and love of the wilderness led Louise and Henry to Lake Kukagami where they lived for 42 years. They absolutely loved it and Kukagami always held a special place in Henry’s heart.

His warmth, sense of humour and dedication to others will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Finlandia Long Term Care for their kindness and exceptional care of Henry.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
