Sudbury and Area Helping Families in Need is a volunteer-run, non-registered charity that has supported more than 200 families across Greater Sudbury since 2012.

“Our work focuses on helping families struggling to afford essentials, especially around the holiday season,” the group told Sudbury.com. “With no government funding, we rely entirely on community generosity and partnerships with groups such as Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer, YWCA Geneva House and City of Sudbury Social Services.”

The charity is hosting a Halloween Dance Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Centennial Arena Upper Hall.

“All proceeds raised will go directly toward providing food, presents and other essentials to families in need this Christmas.”

DJ TDawg will provide the soundtrack for the event. The day kicks off with a Toddler Dance from 3-5 p.m. for children age six and under. This is followed by the Preteen Dance from 5:15-7:15 p.m. and then a Teen Dance from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Admission fees will cover one child or teen plus up to two adults. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

There will be prizes for the best costumes, a $100 prize for whoever brings the most non-perishable food items and free photographs for every five non-perishable food donations or $5 donations.

“Every dollar raised stays here in Sudbury to support local families this holiday season.”

For tickets, contact Mike Bellerose by phone or text to 705-207-4170 or email [email protected]. Sudbury and Area Helping Families in Need can also be contacted through their Facebook page.
