In Loving Memory of Edward (Eddie) Smyth
Passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the age of 80. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward (Eddie) Smyth on January 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was the cherished husband of Shirley Smyth (née Seale) for many devoted years. He was a beloved stepfather to Edward and William. Born in Gehanstown, Delvin, Co. Westmeath, Ireland, to the late John and Bridget Smyth, Eddie was predeceased by his brother Seamus Smyth. He is survived by his loving sisters Marie and Vera, brother-in-law Michael, as well as many nieces and nephews who held him dear.
After immigrating to Canada, Eddie dedicated much of his working life to Inco in Sudbury, Ontario, retiring after years of steadfast service. In retirement, he found great joy in life's quieter pleasures: picking wild blueberries, growing his beloved tomatoes, and taking short trips with Shirley. He especially treasured evenings spent watching hockey and hurling with his stepsons, sharing stories, laughter, and the simple comfort of family. Eddie was known for his happy disposition, warm smile, and genuine kindness.
He made friends effortlessly and touched countless lives with his gentle spirit and the world is a little less bright without Eddie. Eddie will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley, stepsons Edward and William, grandchildren Vernon and Jennifer, and their families; sisters Marie and Vera, brother-in-law Michael, nieces, nephews, extended family in Ireland and Canada, and a wide circle of friends.
