Search warrant leads to arrest of two people, seizure of drugs

Two people, one of whom is a young offender, are facing charges following the execution of search warrant at an apartment complex on Paris Street on Nov. 5.

That day, detectives with Greater Sudbury Police Service, as well as the Emergency Response Unit and the Canine Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at an apartment unit at 1960 Paris St., also known as Rumball Terrace.

“During the execution of the search warrant, two people were located inside the apartment and arrested for drug offences,” GSPS said in a news release.

Police said a search of the two people and of the apartment turned up approximately 24 grams of cocaine, 122 oxycodone pills and approximately $15,000 in cash. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $3,100, GSPS said.

A 25-year-old man from Southern Ontario was arrested at the scene, as was a 16-year-old young offender.

Both are charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, to wit: Cocaine.  
  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, to wit: Oxycodone. 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 

The adult arrested appeared in Bail Court on Nov. 6 to answer to the charges. Police said the man currently has other charges before the court related to drug trafficking.

“The youth was released with a future court date to answer to the charges,” police said. “The youth’s name cannot be  released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).”
