Michael John Running
Michael John Running, age 64, passed away on December 31, 2025, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ontario, following complications from the flu.
Michael was born on November 5, 1961, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He dedicated most of his working life to serving others as a PSW/DSW, a role that reflected his compassionate heart, patience, and commitment to caring for those in need. Helping others was not just his profession, but a calling he lived out throughout his life.
Above all else, Michael loved his sons, Caleb and Nicholas. Being their father was one of the greatest joys of his life. He took pride in them, cared deeply about their well-being, and always wanted the best for their futures. His love for his boys was steady and unwavering, and they remained a constant source of purpose and strength in his life.
Michael deeply loved his God and lived his life grounded in faith. He believed in serving others, persevering through hardship, and trusting in God’s plan. His faith carried him through many challenges, including his courageous battle with and survival of cancer, and remained a source of strength throughout his life. As Michael took his final breath on earth, he took his first breath in Heaven, entering into eternal peace.
Martial arts played a significant role in Michael’s life. It was more than a hobby—it was a lifelong passion that shaped his discipline, resilience, and sense of balance. Through martial arts, he developed inner strength, focus, and respect for others, values that carried over into how he lived, worked, and cared for those around him. It provided him with both physical strength and mental clarity, especially during challenging seasons of his life.
Michael is predeceased by his mother, Joyce Running (née Dear), and his Stepmother, Jeannie Running (née Nelson).
He is lovingly remembered by his father, John Running; his brothers Brent Running and Mark Running (wife Tammy); his nephews Kristopher and Joshua Running; his ex-wife Stacey Running; and most especially his beloved sons, Caleb and Nicholas Running. As well as many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate healthcare teams who cared for Michael, including his ICU Nurse Megan and the staff in ICU on the 3rd floor at Health Sciences North, the staff at the HSN Amberwood Suites site, and the staff on the 5th floor at Kirkwood Place. Your care, kindness, and dedication will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
A faith-based service will be announced at a later date. Interment will take place in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, once weather conditions allow.
Michael will be remembered for his quiet strength, his servant’s heart, his unwavering faith, and the deep love he held for his family—especially his sons.
