Greater Sudbury is seeking feedback on a proposed amendment to development charges bylaw that would freeze development charge rates the June 30, 2016, level for one year. If approved, the phased-in and inflationary increases would be implemented between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2019.
A public meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. on June 21 during the finance and administration committee meeting in the council chamber of Tom Davies Square.
Anyone interested in making a presentation related to the proposed freeze can pre-register by contacting clerks services at 705-674-4455, ext. 2409 or by email at [email protected].
Presenters will be heard in the order they appear on the speakers list and will receive five minutes each to make a presentation. Feedback may also be submitted online until June 17 at 4:30 p.m., at www.greatersudbury.ca/devcharges.
“All written submissions and those expressed at the public meeting will be considered prior to council’s decision, anticipated during the city council meeting of June 28,” the city said in a news release.
Copies of the proposed amendment to the bylaw and the background study from 2014-151 are available via the city’s website, clerks services and all citizen service centres.
Development charges are levied against new residential and non-residential development, and are a source of funding to recover growth-related capital expenditures.
City services include water, wastewater, roads, drains, police and public safety, general government, libraries, cemeteries, fire, recreation, emergency services and transit.
