It is with deep love and regret that we announce the passing of Gord Payne on Saturday, January 03, 2026 at the age of… he will never tell.
Gord Payne was a man whose presence shaped not only his family, but everyone whose lives he touched. His unwavering commitment to those around him earned him respect and love.
Throughout his career, Gord was deeply involved in numerous community initiatives, contributing his time and thoughtful patience to causes that strengthened and supported others. From frontline mental health and addictions work to high-level organizational oversight, Gord always pursued the positive potential in everything and everyone. He was driven and principled in every area of his life. His work will be remembered not only for what he accomplished but also for how he accomplished it. With integrity, humour, and a genuine concern for people.
One of Gord’s greatest passions was cooking, an extensions of his generosity and his joy in bringing people together. He loved having family and friends around the table and took particular pleasure in serving flawless breakfasts, perfectly grilled steaks or burgers, or his carefully crafted personal pizzas. He was also, by unanimous and entirely unbiased agreement “world-renowned” for his deep fried chicken wings.
Gord loved sports in nearly ever form, whether playing, watching, or offering expert commentary from the comfort of his couch. And yes, despite a lifetime of evidence suggesting better options existed, he remained a fiercely loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan until the very end.
Above all, Gord’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Brenda, and a deeply loving father to his two daughters, Sarah (Sean) and Mallory (Andrew). As a proud grandfather to four cherished grandchildren, Payden, Holden, Charlie and Hannah, he found immense joy in their lives and delighted in watching them grow.
Even beyond his immediate family, Gord was seen as a father figure, a mentor, and a steady presence, someone others instinctively turned to for guidance and reassurance. He was truly everyone’s rock. He will be deeply missed by his immediate family and siblings, extended family members, friends, and by the beloved Tilton Crew, who held a special place in his life and heart.
He is perhaps best remembered for his remarkable sense of humour. He had the rare ability to lighten any situation. Whether during challenging moments or everyday interactions, Gord brought levity, warmth, and perspective, reminding others not to lose sight of joy, fun, and the importance of laughter. His laughter was generous, his wit kind, his smile always present and his presence reassuring. Gord leaves behind a legacy rooted in compassion and love. His influence will continue to be felt through the many lives he touched, the family he adored, and the community he helped shape.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A celebration of life will occur in his honour at a later date.
