The Onaping Falls Winter Carnival is back with a full week of carnival events for 2026, running Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.
For 60 years, the Levack-Onaping and Dowling Winter Carnivals have been the longest running winter carnivals and a cornerstone of winter fun in Greater Sudbury.
Thousands of residents and visitors have enjoyed the festivities annually and organizers are proud to bring the event to life once again.
The carnival kicks off Monday, Jan. 26 with numerous events throughout Onaping Falls during the week including one of its newest, Carnival Pride Drag Bingo on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Onaping Falls Lion’s Den.
Carnival weekend begins on Friday, Jan. 30 with the Opening Ceremony and the Miss Teen Onaping Falls Pageant at the Dowling Leisure Centre. The fun continues Saturday and Sunday with a variety of events for all ages.
On Saturday, Jan. 31 is a winter fun day at the Dowling Leisure Centre, featuring activities for kids and adults, face painting, a cake walk, a vintage snowmachine show, family skating and much more.
Continuing on Sunday, Feb. 1, there’s a pancake breakfast and kids curling at the Onaping Falls Curling Club and the 5th annual Ookpik Cardboard Box Derby.
Also, there is free cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at the Onaping Falls Nordics Ski Club with a Carnival button and our Annual Carnival Euchre Tournament in support of Falls Food Bank.
Visitors can spot carnival mascots Ookpik and Bonhomme throughout the weekend.
A carnival button is required to participate in all events. Buttons are $5 for adults and $3 for Youth (17 years and under).
Adult button purchases include entry into a cash raffle with prizes of $500, $250 and $100 available (License # M879615). The draw will take place on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. at Onaping Falls Legion.
