Fans of the sounds of African-inspired live music should get ready for the third edition of the Nyama Nyama Experience, taking the stage at the Northern Watersport Centre on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.
It’s an evening of what the event organizers describe as “an unparalleled celebration of culture, music and culinary delights.”
The event is organized by Nyama Nyama Sound, a Sudbury-based music company housing a number of artists, producers and creatives.
Founded in 2014 with the goal of providing an authentic audio experience and a unique sound from a modern African perspective, their website states that Nyama Nyama Sound “set out to curate and release a series of projects that reflect this intent and collaborate with acts sharing the same goal.”
For a taste of their sound, see Sudbury.com’s previous story here.
Held annually in the Nickel City, the event is designed to showcase some of Nyama Nyama Sound's most exciting projects and achievements through the year and also spotlight Sudbury's eclectic talent and the cross-cultural fusion that defines Canada's arts scene.
“The night will be filled with the soulful sounds of live music, expertly crafted African-themed cocktails and culinary delights, and an art auction that showcases the continent's rich artistic heritage in the diaspora,” said a release from the organizers. “As guests mingle and enjoy the entertainment, they will be treated to a sensory journey through Africa's vibrant cultures.”
The event's theme is a celebration of the African diaspora's contributions to the world's artistic and cultural landscape, said the release, and an opportunity to experience the rhythms, flavours and colors of Africa in a “unique and captivating way.”
