All 59 of the city’s GOVA Transit buses will have new screens installed displaying transit route information by the end of April.
A total of 79 screens will be installed, with the 20-screen balance being placed at the back of certain buses to support rear-facing accessible seating areas.
The new screens will join other communications systems that have been installed on GOVA buses in recent months to help improve rider experience.
An audio announcement informs riders in both French and English of the next stop, and buses have also been equipped with an interior two-inch by 24-inch digital display with this information.
In August, GOVA tested a larger display on one of its buses – a 21-inch screen set up in the front of Bus 914, which improved the view of destination and route information as well as what the next five stops would be and the times to destinations. A second screen was later added to support riders in rear-facing accessible seating areas.
Deemed a success via rider feedback, these are the screens GOVA is installing more of, with all 79 to be installed by the end of April. The $332,992 cost is being covered by the federal Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
In addition to route information, the screens are able to provide information on route delays and allow room for advertising additional services and messages.
The additional screens tie into the city’s Transit Action Plan, which identified wayfinding and rip planning as priority areas for customer care and information improvements.
