Sudbury’s Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking is launching a region-wide anti-human trafficking awareness campaign, featuring new billboards, as well as a virtual awareness event on Sept. 24.
Funded by the Sudbury Community Foundation, the campaign is dedicated to increasing public awareness, promoting community vigilance and supporting survivors across Greater Sudbury.
A release from Angels of Hope states that “through education, outreach, and engagement, the initiative will empower residents to recognize the signs of trafficking, access local services, and take meaningful action to prevent exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals.”
Beginning Sept. 1 and running through Feb. 1, 2026, residents will see anti-human trafficking billboards across Greater Sudbury. These public messages are designed to spark awareness and “remind the community that human trafficking is not just an issue elsewhere it happens here.”
As part of the campaign, Angels of Hope will also host a virtual awareness event on Sept. 24, featuring “a courageous survivor who has become a thriver.”
The speaker will share her lived experience of being trafficked, explain how traffickers operate, outline key warning signs, and provide guidance on what to do if someone suspects trafficking in their community.
“A lot of people in Greater Sudbury don’t realize that human trafficking is happening in our own community,” says Cristina Scarpellini, founder and executive director of Angels of Hope Against Human Trafficking.
“Sudbury’s geography makes it a hub for trafficking activity, and that reality contributes to the prevalence of this crime in our region. Our goal is to educate residents on how to recognize the signs, respond safely, and ensure survivors know that resources and support are available.”
