Ed Archer was the CAO of the City of Greater Sudbury from May 2016 to October 2024. Mayor Paul Lefebvre announced the city was parting ways with Archer on Oct. 22.

Ed Archer is no longer the chief administrative officer of the City of Greater Sudbury.

In a news release this evening, Mayor Paul Lefebvre announced Archer’s time with the city is “ended effective immediately,” according to a news release from the mayor’s office.

“We appreciate Ed’s commitment and contributions over the past eight years,” Lefebvre said in the release. “Mr. Archer helped to navigate the city through significant challenges and change during his tenure."

The release further states Greater Sudbury has “opportunities and challenges” that require “fresh energy and creative approaches to administration.”

"The city is well-positioned for growth and job creation, and we are confident that with new leadership, we will better prosper, innovate and achieve the best for our community," Lefebvre said in the release.

The mayor’s office said a national recruitment effort will begin shortly. In the meantime, Kevin Fowke, the general manager of corporate services, will serve as interim CAO.

Further announcements on recruitments and a transition plan will be made in the coming weeks, said the release.

Sudbury.com will have a more on the departure of Ed Archer tomorrow.
