TORONTO — A Toronto man has been charged with first-degree murder after a shooting on a bus near one of the city's busiest shopping malls.

Toronto police say officers arrested a 40-year-old man earlier this week and he appeared in court on Monday.

Officers were called to the scene of the shooting at the Yorkdale GO bus terminal, next to the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in North York, on Sunday evening.

They say officers discovered a man who had been shot, and he died at the scene from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Osemwengie Irorere of Nigeria.

The killing is Toronto's first homicide of 2026.
