Let’s eat! Immigrants bring Asian fusion cuisine and bubble tea to Valley

Enjoy specialties including strawberry cheese wontons or favourites such as chicken balls and ramen

TIm Xu and Tony Pu first met while working at a restaurant together in Toronto.

Originally from China, they both spent 10 years in the restaurant business down south before deciding to open their own restaurant and bubble tea bar up north, right here in Val Caron.

The restaurant and bubble tea shop are a stone's throw from each other on Old Highway 69, near the Main Street intersection.

The restaurant, which opened eight months ago, offers a vibrant Asian fusion menu, while the bubble tea shop just opened last month.

“We came north and to Val Caron specifically because there was nothing available like this in the area,” says Tim Xu.

The appetizer menu alone features strawberry cheese wontons, sugar buns, deep fried cheese wontons, deep fried milk and buffalo cauliflower.

It also has staples like calamari, edamame and spring rolls and seven versions of fried tempura such as shrimp, pumpkin for fall weather, zucchini and broccoli, along with tempura platters.

The main menu is quite extensive with pages and pages of soups, salads, plates, bowls and loads of sushi, sashimi, rolls and handrolls.

“When people come here, they choose foods depending on their mood and cravings of the day, so we offer a lot of options,” Tim says.

The hot dish list is long, with offerings like chicken and beef teriyaki, Mongolian beef with rice, braised pork with rice and the Katsu chicken curry with chicken cutlets.

Tim says the Valley Favourites on the menu are called just that.

Valley Favourite one features sesame chicken and chicken fried rice.

The second Valley Favourite is the stir fried chicken udon with chicken balls.

Tim says customers really enjoy their six different combination dragon rolls and the Las Vegas roll. The Vegas roll features cream cheese, salmon, crab meat and avocado.

Those customers looking for a bowl of ramen can also get their fix here or go completely astray with something as simple as fish and chips or smash burgers.

Tim and Tony’s Restaurant has two locations in Val Caron, with one for food and the other for Boba tea.

The restaurant can be found at 2924 Old Highway 69, while the other location is reserved for bubble tea and is called Tim and Tony’s Boba.

You can learn more about both locations on Facebook.
