Let’s eat! Excitement building for opening of Overtime’s new location

Overtime Sports Bar & Grill’s location on Notre Dame Avenue has closed after 14 years and the staff are excited for the impending opening of the new, larger location on The Kingsway

"Out with the old and in with the new" barely captures the transformation underway at Overtime Sports Bar & Grill in Sudbury as 2026 ushers in a bold new chapter.

No one is more excited than manager Attillo Langella for the new location and overhaul.

The new location will open at 1051 Kingsway on Jan. 12, in the old King’s Buffet location.

“We are going from 5,000 square feet on Notre Dame Avenue to 7,500 square feet and have a bigger stage for performers, a golf simulator, four pool tables and space for old video games machines” Langella said. “There will be online trivia and pool leagues, too.

“We’ve even blasted out rock to make 65 more parking spots and are going through the permit process to hopefully add a double decker patio in the spring,” he said.

After supporting staff and patrons through the trauma of a deadly shooting in April of 2023, Langella promised a revision and restart when interviewed by Sudbury.com.

On April 21, 2023, 22-year-old Joe Cabigon was shot at Overtime Sports Bar & Grill’s Notre Dame Avenue location. Cabigon later died in hospital. One suspect was arrested and another remains at-large with police offering a monetary reward for tips leading to the arrest of the suspect.

After all the counselling sessions with Victim Services, Langella’s staff pivoted and will now shift over to the Kingsway.

“In speaking with my reps, the drinking of alcoholic beverages is down around 18 per cent so we are doing more to create a welcoming environment giving patrons other means of entertainment and really great homemade food. We have always been a family restaurant and want to keep it that way,” he said.

Langella said being closer to hotels means the staff will be able to cater to the tournament district and the restaurant will have a more high-end look, too.

Langella, a carpenter by trade, always craves the pasta, chicken wings and Original Six hamburgers.

While the Notre Dame location is now closed and the new location is not yet open, he reminds customers there are always the Val Caron and Chelmsford locations to visit in the meantime.

Langella manages the restaurant under owner John Law. Law and his wife, Jolie Nguyen, own Law Enterprises, which operates more than 20 businesses and dining spots in the city of Greater Sudbury.

Langella, who said he has always been community-minded, is also looking forward to bringing back fundraisers in the coming months.

“We have a pause on fundraisers right now, but we are already getting requests for more porchetta bingos and other events,” he said.

He’s also added some new staff to the mix that will help with the roll out of a brand new menu. Kids are still welcome to eat for $5 on weekends.

Chef Stewart Raymond and General Manager Nikki Leeson will be added to the mix.

“After 14 years in the Notre Dame location, the customers are very excited and the construction on the Kingsway has created a buzz around town,” Langella said. “I get lots of questions and lots of great ideas, too.”

Overtime Sports Bar & Grill’s local at 1051 The Kingsway is set to open Jan. 12. Hours of operation will be Sunday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. Friday and Saturday hours are extended from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
